Solving the Challenge of Unstructured Data with a Unique Technology

Insurance Workflows: Insurers face challenges when it comes to handling their paperwork, including submissions, quotes, and loss runs reports. The unstructured nature of the data, the sheer volume of content and inconsistent language between carriers makes it tedious, time-consuming, and expensive to process manually. Cortical.io SemanticPro understands concepts, not just key words. For example, unlike traditional IDP solutions that require a recognized date format, SemanticPro can automatically interpret the phrase “not later than 10 business days after demand therefore” and knows that it pertains to a date. With a little 100 documents, business users can train SemanticPro to automatically perform extractions, review the results and continue to fine-tune the system as part of a continuous learning process. Semantic Folding: Taking the Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) theory, a computational theory of the human cortex developed by Numenta, as a starting point, Cortical.io has developed Semantic Folding, a corresponding theory of language representation. Semantic Folding describes a method of converting text into a semantically grounded representation called a semantic fingerprint. Semantic fingerprints are Sparse Distributed Representations (SDR) of words: large binary vectors that are very sparsely filled, with every bit representing distinct semantic information. Many practical problems of statistical Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems and, more recently, of Transformer models, like the necessity of creating large training data sets, the high cost of computation, the fundamental incongruity of precision and recall, the complex tuning procedures, etc., can be elegantly overcome by applying Semantic Folding to text processing. SemanticPro Classify & Automate automatically classifies and routes unstructured message streams such as email messages (including attachments) and social media text to appropriate mailboxes, and enterprise applications for real-time review, analysis, and action. Pharmaceutical Services: During the initial phase of the project, Cortical.io created a prototype based on SemanticPro Classify & Automate to identify mentions of on- and off-label medication usage in a static set of Reddit posts. Leveraging Cortical.io meaning-based algorithms, the application automatically and accurately filters and classifies Reddit messages and summarizes the results. Cortical.io trained classifiers for each of the example drugs specified by the company using publicly available information.
