thesiliconreview-sandilya-venkatesh-ceo-eventus-software-solutions-pvt-ltd-2017In the last couple of years, the number and magnitude of sporting events organized in India and Asia in general has grown manifold. More and more people are taking to running and cycling as the new form of fitness as opposed to going to a gym which can be get boring quite quickly.

In the US, the jogging craze picked up in the late 80s and has seen a geometric growth over the last several decades. In 2016, more than half a million people participated and completed a marathon in the US. The number of those running shorter distances like half marathons, 10Ks, 5Ks, or just running for exercise and fun is exponentially higher. The story is similar in Europe. France for instance records a whopping 14,000+ running races a year.

In India and Asia, with growing awareness of fitness and higher disposable incomes, more and more people are taking to running and cycling as a more exciting way to keep fit, enjoy the outdoors and simply to connect with others in a safe and clean environment. Fuelled by social media and the “selfie” craze, the fitness event industry in India is expected to surpass the US and Europe in less than 10 years.

In 2011, Sandilya Venkatesh, a serial entrepreneur and his equally competent team introduced the southern city of Chennai to a new erain fitness events. Read on to know more about this tide of change.

How it all began

Sandilya being an IT professional with a more than keen interest in fitness and sport, saw an opportunity to push running and cycling to an audience hungry for newer means of fitness. Over a conversation with his running buddies after a morning run, Eventjini pitched to be the registration partner for the Wipro Chennai Marathon – the largest race in South India. Eventjini solved several key problems of the organizers while also making the registration process for the participants easy and seamless. That race was sold out two weeks before the announced closure date. The idea had come to life and so began an exciting story of heady growth.

Accelerating towards growth

With the success of the Wipro Chennai Marathon under his belt, Sandilya set his sights higher and approached Procam International, the owners of the four largest races in India. After a grueling pitch and series of presentations that spanned over 6 months, Eventjini became the official registration partner for the Tata Mumbai Marathon as also the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, the TCS World 10k and the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K. Since then Eventjini has been the registration partner for more than 3500 events all over India and has enabled more than 400,000 runners to access events in multiple cities across India.

Being different

What sets Eventjini apart from any other event registration firm in the continent is the fact that they are focused on the endurance sport industry. The space is growing fast and requires many independent but related services. Evenjini’s goal is to organize a highly fragmented market that is ripe for consolidation. They are working on enabling a lifestyle of fitness for their customers, servicing their needs for events, knowledge, motivation and gear and apparel. To this end, Eventjini is spawning various sub brands and portals that focus on providing fitness and nutrition information, apparel and gear shopping, and an online profile store that can house training and event performance history. By creating such multiple products, Eventjini is getting set to address the various needs of any one wanting to get fit and stay fit.
