Cairn Oil & Gas Targets Ne...Cairn's ESG strategy includes a comprehensive roadmap focusing on reducing carbon emissions, leveraging renewable energy sources
Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta Group and India's leading private oil and gas exploration and production company, has announced its ambitious goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2030. This milestone is part of Cairn's commitment to Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) leadership across the exploration and production (E&P) value chain.
Cairn's ESG strategy includes a comprehensive roadmap focusing on reducing carbon emissions, leveraging renewable energy sources, implementing nature-based carbon solutions, and adopting innovative technologies such as waste-to-energy and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). These initiatives are fast-tracking the company's vision for a Net-Zero Carbon future, as outlined in a recent press release.
In alignment with this year's World Environment Day theme, which emphasizes land restoration, halting desertification, and building drought resilience, Cairn has launched extensive biodiversity conservation and nature restoration activities in its operational regions of Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. Notably, the Ravva region in Andhra Pradesh has been transformed into a flourishing wetland of mangroves spanning 86 acres. Cairn is ready to procure up to 70 MW of renewable energy by 2030. A significant step towards this goal is the commencement of a 25 MW renewable Power Delivery Agreement scheduled for FY25.
Through these initiatives, Cairn Oil & Gas is not only advancing its environmental stewardship but also setting a benchmark for the industry in sustainable practices. The company's efforts underscore its dedication to mitigating climate change and promoting ecological balance in its operational landscapes.
