Finisterre Makes a Splash with First North American Storefront

Beyond retail, the Portland store is set to become a vibrant community space

UK-based B-Corp brand Finisterre, renowned for its cold-water sustainable surf and outdoor apparel, has made a significant leap by opening its first-ever North American retail storefront. The new store, launched in partnership with Maine Surfers Union, is situated in Portland, Maine's bustling Old Port shopping district, at 15 Free Street. This 1,100-square-foot space, just a stone's throw from Maine’s picturesque coastline, has been meticulously remodeled to embody the aesthetic and values of Finisterre's 11 retail stores across the UK.

Finisterre's entry into the North American market marks a pivotal step in its global retail expansion. In a statement, the brand described the Portland location as the "perfect launching pad and community hub." The store features an array of the brand’s men’s and women’s collections, including wetsuits, swimwear, and accessories. Highlights include the fluorocarbon-free Stormbird waterproof jacket, the technical women’s Anella swimsuit, and the men’s 2mm Yulex shorty wetsuit.

Beyond retail, the Portland store is set to become a vibrant community space. Collaborative events between Finisterre and Maine Surfers Union are already planned, such as film screenings, beach clean-ups, roundtable discussions, and garment repair workshops. Finisterre is also eager to foster local creativity by engaging artisans and vendors for unique partnerships. The first of these collaborations features a 100 percent organic cotton T-shirt designed by York-based artist and surfer Ty Williams, available exclusively at the new store.
