An Interview with Henrique Vaz, CleanCloud CEO: ‘We Simply Unlock the Potential of Your Cloud’

In a matter of weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has upended global business. From local insurance agencies to multinational corporations, companies around the world have had to scramble to continue operations with their employees working remotely from home due to office and business closures as a result of government orders.

Even without the pandemic, cloud-based tools were surging in popularity. Now, the demand has skyrocketed.

In light of the foregoing, we’re thrilled to present CleanCloud — a cloud management platform providing products for cost optimization and security/compliance.                 

The company was incorporated in 2017 and is based in São Paulo, Brazil.

Henrique Vaz, CleanCloud CEO, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review. Below is an excerpt.

CleanCloud: Dictating a New Approach

CleanCloud offers two products: Inspect, cost optimization platform for AWS and Azure cloud; Score, an AWS cloud compliance product for major market frameworks including PCI and HIPAA.

When you think about security there is also the ‘shared responsibility model’. This shared model can help relieve the customer’s operational burden as the cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud operate, manage, and control the components from the host operating system and virtualization layer down to the physical security of the facilities in which the service operates. The nature of this shared responsibility also provides the flexibility and customer control that permits the deployment

“Our Score product provides all the information needed to secure the customer part of the shared responsibility model with over 150 compliance checks for the main frameworks and regulations.”

A Deeper Look at CleanCloud Offerings

With hundreds of different services and thousands of resources on a single cloud platform, it’s impossible to keep track of everything without management tools.

“There is a big lack of cloud experts on the market, so a product like CleanCloud, in which both products provide automatic recommendations to improve a customer’s cloud service, is essential.”

With CleanCloud Inspect there are over 50 recommendations to reduce costs based on usage patterns, focusing on unused or underused resources and those with cheaper payment terms available. It also provides dashboards, automatic reports, alarms based on anomaly detection, and other cost management features.

CleanCloud Score applies the same logic for security and compliance, with over 150 checks for the main compliance frameworks and benchmarks, including PCI, HIPAA and data protection regulations such as CCPA, LGPD, and GDPR.

“Since with CleanCloud Inspect we only charge a small percentage of the customer’s savings when they use both products the total savings suppress the investment on both Inspect and Score”.

Henrique also notes that according to market research the average cost waste on the cloud of 35 percent, and over 70 percent of the companies overspend on the cloud.

Furthermore, the company is currently working on integrating with other cloud providers platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

Cloud: A Reliable Pal

Cloud computing and DevOps is a combination that can transform an organization. And they bring other experts to the organization: the FinOps, responsible for cost management, and the DevSecOps, responsible for security and compliance.

With the acceleration of innovation cloud infrastructure will continue to grow on double digits for a few years. Companies don’t have time to waste on the purchase and installation of hardware in a data center, and digital products needs to scale up and down at any time to be more cost effective.

“With the cloud you can scale up or down the infrastructure in a matter of seconds, allowing companies to increase innovation with less cost and without upfront payment or CAPEX investment. Also, in a moment of crises like COVID-19, any company can scale down its cloud infrastructure to address the smaller demand.”

Henrique Vaz: A Dynamic Leader

Henrique Vaz serves as the Chief Executive Officer of CleanCloud. Mr. Vaz, a law graduate, has earned two Master’s degrees in Corporate Finance and Business Administration (MBA). Back in 2012, he founded his first company. Fast forward to 2017, and three companies later, he co-founded CleanCloud.
