New Entry: Singapore Airlines Starts its Own Blockchain-Based Airline Digital Wallet

Singapore Airlines introduces a new Blockchain-based digital wallet for the customers who often board the airline. The announcement was made public on Tuesday.

According to a media report, the software for the e-wallet is jointly developed by KPMG and Microsoft.

The new payment wallet is dubbed as ‘KrisPay’. To use the wallet, priority customers have to register with the Krisflyer program. After registering, they can download the KrisPay application on their smartphones.

By using KrisPay, customers will be able to convert their travel distance into cashless money. The e-wallet will convert travel miles into KrisPay units (units of payments) and later on, a customer can redeem them for shopping at the partnered merchants through QR scanning.

The customers can use a minimum of 15 KrisPay miles ($0.73) for purchasing different products like food and beverage, petrol, beauty treatments, etc.

According to the report, 18 different payment merchant accepts the new e-wallet across Singapore, and more merchants would be added in the future.

In February this year, the airline has rolled out its first blockchain service, after successful initial trails with KPMG and Microsoft. And the news came after a week when SIA was voted the best airline in the world by Skytrax in London.
