Scientists Develop New Drug to Treat Ebola More Effectively
The Silicon Review
14 January, 2019

A team of scientist have created an experimental drug especially for treating Ebola in an effective manner. It is believed that one dose of the drug is good enough for safeguarding human beings against a lethal infection of all strains of the deadly Ebola virus.

As per a member from the University of Texas, the older therapeutics typically was of the "one bug, one drug" variety. But, due to the unpredictable nature of the deadly virus, scientists have been working on different methods to safeguard against various strains of the virus.

The experimental drug has the potential to safeguard against any type of known Ebola, and also it will continue its shield for the people if the virus evolves over time.

The study revealed that the drug, i.e. MBP134 (two antibody cocktail) had the capability to defend against dangerous Ebola viruses such as Bundibugyo and Zaire strain, the virus which was responsible for the Ebola outbreak in 2013-16 in Western Africa and currently has affected the Democratic Republic of Congo. The drug can protect nonhuman primates and ferrets from the viruses.

The scientists were successful at preventing the viruses to cause damage to nonhuman primates with only a single dose of the drug. Further studies exploration could even pave the way to develop a treatment with the help of advanced methods like auto-injectors, the kind used for allergic reactions.

The new drug will reduce the burden of the doctors as it has the ability to quickly and efficiently provide protection against all Ebola viruses, especially in the economically backward nations.
