New AI System to Detect Childhood Disease Fast

A new breakthrough in the field of AI can now help diagnose childhood diseases seamlessly. A team of researchers from China studied the test results of the AI programme including health records and handwriting. The results of the tests showed that the AI programme diagnosed the disease more accurately than doctors.

According to Kang Zhang, a researcher at the University of California, he believes that the new system will be able to carry out the job of a doctor in the majority of the cases. It will save time and money for the doctors.

The new development is the first of its kind where AI collects unstructured data and natural language to copy the procedure by which a doctor detects the problem in a patient.  The system has the ability to work as a human pediatrician to understand and combine all types of medical data such as medical history, blood tests, and patient’s complaints. It will help the system to carry out a diagnosis.

The system can be transferred to other languages and settings with ease.

The training for the proof of concept system was carried out in Guangzhou, China. To train the system, Mr. Zhang and other team members injected over 100 million points from million pediatrics patient visits at a major referral center in the region.

The new development has the capacity to enhance healthcare by helping the clinician in making a fast and accurate diagnosis. But it will not replace the work of clinicians.
