Stop&Shop, American grocery is deploying driverless grocery vehicles to test autonomous delivery vehicles. The testing will be carried with the help of Robomart, a startup. The vehicles will collect items around the grocery stores and deliver it to customers at their homes.

The vehicles will be electric and will be equipped with a temperature monitoring system. The system will ensure the freshness of the product during delivery. The system will be operated from a Robomart facility. To use the new service, the customers can hail the stores through an app, similar to the Uber app’s interference.  After booking the vehicle, it will arrive with the desired products, where customers need to unlock the doors and take out the products.

Customers need not worry about their delivery since the products will be tracked. Whenever the shopping is completed, the users get a receipt via mail and the vehicle is sent back to the store.

This year, the grocery chain will conduct experiments with robots. For that, the company looking to deploy a fleet of robots which are googly-eyed, and it will patrol their aisles across 500 Giant, Martin’s, and Stop & Shop stores. 

The robots are developed in collaboration with Retail Business Services and Badger Technologies. Nicked named “Marty”, it moves around a store and cleans any spills and mess. Marty has sensors and cameras on it, they will make sure that it doesn’t bump in any shelves and maintain the stock of items.
