Plex Rolls out new Media app for Windows and Mac
The Silicon Review
16 August, 2019

Plex mediasoftware is now available for Mac and Windows. The new desktop version would probably replace the company’s only desktop solution, Plex Media Player.

The new launch is a result of the growing popularity of the Plex Media Player; which people gave good reviews about it and also said that it works on many different streaming devices.

According to the company, the new desktop app includes all the features of the Plex Media Player and includes support for offline access. The download feature (formerly called sync), allows a user to download songs and listen to it offline. Similar support for the mobile app will be introduced later.

The new desktop app is free. Users need to have a Plex Pass subscription to use the download feature. The company will continue to update the Plex Media Player until next year, although the desktop app would act as a replacement for it, the company added.

In recent years, the overall business scenario for Plex has been different. Now, the company is more than just a media organizer. Things have changed for Pleas, as, currently, it is a DIY streaming solution that enables users to stream their own media across platforms but also from news, podcasts, web series and music from TIDAL along with snap and record live TV from a digital antenna.

In 2018, the company claimed of having 15 million registered users under its belt.
