The recent studies conducted by scientists from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have revealed that consumption of tea regularly will help in proper organization of brain cells and improves the development of brain structure. It also helps in the cognitive function of the brain. The results were gathered by examining neuroimaging and bioinformatics data of regular tea drinkers from various places, aged above 35 years.
Assistant Professor Feng Lei, from the Department of Psychological Medicine at the NUS, reported that drinking tea also has a protective effect against age-related decline in brain organization. This research was carried out with collaborations of other universities like the University of Essex and the University of Cambridge.
Previously held studies have suggested that intake of tea has had positive effects which include mood improvement, increase in WBCs and bioactive components present in the brain which helps in fighting diseases, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
This discovery by scientists will pave new ways in the field of neurological and cognitive research. It also helps in better understanding of brain circuits. Additionally, it would also go on to shed light on the causes of disruption to interregional connections and their prevention, including their exact mechanisms. This result will also help to preserve the process of cognition during the aging process.
