Even though PUBG is made available to play for free, some elements of the game are expected to be behind the paywall, like ranked matches and custom mode
The OG PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is all set to become free-to-play from today. In a game awards show that was held last month, Krafton had stated that the game would be available for free. Since its launch in 2017, PUBG was a paid game, and it quickly became a huge hit that it motivated other major studios like Epic Games to make free battle royale mode for Fortnite. The main reason for Fortnite and other battle royale games is their free-to-play model and gameplay.
Even though PUBG is made available to play for free, some elements of the game are expected to be behind the paywall, like ranked matches and custom mode. People who pay for the plus membership will receive special in-game items and more perks. People who purchased the game earlier are expected to get a commemorative pack and free access to plus along with other new items. The servers are down as of now for maintenance. This might be due to the free-to-play launch. People who registered before the event must link their Krafton ID to receive their rewards. Players, by completing their playstyle quiz, will get ten contraband coupons.
