Microsoft’s Hololens and AEXA’s custom software have helped NASA send doctor virtually to ISS

Holoportation has existed since 2016, at least for the tech giant Microsoft, but this is the first case where it was used in such a remote and extreme environment

Dr. Josef Schmid, Flight Surgeon of NASA, Fernando de la Pena Liaca, CEO of AEXA Aerospace, among a few other team members, are the first humans to be holoported to space from Earth. Holoportation is basically a type of 3D capture solution through which people can be captured as holograms and be streamed in real-time. This is now being used for live communications sessions. Two stellar products of Microsoft Hololens 2.0 and Mesh are now leading the Holoportation segment.

In its recent blog post, NASA had mentioned that by making use of a PC with custom solutions from AEXA, ESA, and Hololens Kinetic camera from Microsoft astronaut Thomas Pesquet managed to have a conversation that was two-way with live images of De La Pena and Schmid placed in the center of ISS. According to the space agency, this was the first successful instance of the Holoportation handshake. Holoportation has existed since 2016, at least for the tech giant Microsoft, but this is the first case where it was used in such a remote and extreme environment. It is a completely new mode of communication where the human entity is able to swiftly travel off the planet. The physical body might not be present there, but it hardly matters when it comes to such innovation.
