A health official in the United States warned that there could be thousands of undiagnosed polio cases in the country
Following the announcement of an unvaccinated man who the polio virus paralyzed in Rockland County, New York, last month, doctors issued a warning. The polio case has been linked genetically to the virus found in the sewage water in London and Jerusalem. The doctor warned all the developed countries to boost the vaccination rates.
Health Commissioner of Rockland, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, said she was worried about undetected Polio in her state. According to her, coming across paralytic case mean there isn't just one case because the incidence of paralytic Polio is less than 1%. And most polio cases are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and they are often ignored.
Dr. Ruppert confirmed that scientists are looking for a linkage between the New York polio case and traces of poliovirus found in wastewater in Jerusalem and London. She added, "This is a severe issue for our global world - it's not just about New York. We all need to make sure all our populations are properly vaccinated."
