Rockstar has asked Obbe Vermeij to takedown his blog

Rockstar Obbe Vermeij
The Silicon Review
23 November, 2023

After leaving Rockstar North in 2009, he has been sharing tales and long-kept secrets

Over the past few days, Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts worldwide have been enthralled with the volume of knowledge that Obbe Vermeij—a former Rockstar North developer who worked on Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA IV, and a few of the game's spin-off titles—has been sharing. After leaving Rockstar North in 2009, he has been sharing tales and long-kept secrets regarding the creation of these games online for the past week or so.

Vermeij's blog posts about his adventures, which have included features that were never released, the making of specific games, and the technical details of how things like cheat codes actually function, have sadly been discovered by Rockstar North, who has informed Vermeij that he must cease writing them. The revelation that Rockstar Games was developing a zombie survival game in the 2000s appeared to be the straw that broke the camel's back.  At that moment, it was a total deviation from what Vermeij had been talking about up to that point, and it was probably too much for Rockstar North. It ended abruptly and unfortunately, but it provided a brief glimpse into the making of some of the best games ever created.
