Makip Unisize Unveils Genderless Shopping Feature in the UK amid Surge in Virtual Try-Ons

Makip Unisize Unveils Genderless Shopping
The Silicon Review
31 July, 2024

This strategic approach is in line with the global trend for gender-neutral fashion, which is expected to grow by 4.5% annually

The AI-based sizing tech company from Japan, Makip, is expanding its Unisize AI-based sizing technology to the UK. The new expansion comes with a new feature for genderless fashion. This novel development comes amid the rising demand for gender-neutral clothing, with more men exploring fashion conventionally marketed towards women.

Unisize’s creative update aims to enhance the shopping experience for all users, irrespective of gender, by making minor changes to its size recommendations engine. This strategic approach is in line with the global trend for gender-neutral fashion, which is expected to grow by 4.5% annually, hitting $3.2 billion by 2028. The feature’s success in Japan underscores its prospective success in the international market. According to June 2023 data, 8,242 male users virtually tried women’s clothing, and this number increased by 179% to 21,381 by June 2024. Over the same period, the percentage of Japanese men using Unisize to try on women’s clothing increased from 3.9% to 6.9%. President of Makip, Shingo Tsukamoto, highlighted the company’s dedication to embracing gender fluidity and accessibility in fashion.

Launched in the UK last year and currently used by Komodo Fashion and Batch LDN, Unisize claims to reduce online clothing returns by 20% and increase purchases by more than 2.5 times.
