Google Rolls Out Gemini-Powered Gmail Q&A for Android Users

The feature is currently exclusive to paying users, who can activate it by clicking the black star logo in the app’s top-right corner

Google has introduced a new feature for Gmail users on Android, allowing them to engage directly with its AI assistant, Gemini, within the Gmail app. The feature, dubbed Gmail Q&A, is available to users who subscribe to Gemini or Google One AI Premium, enhancing how users interact with their emails by offering a more intuitive, AI-driven experience.

With Gmail Q&A, users can ask Gemini to briefly summarize emails or search for particular details, optimizing inbox management. For example, users can give prompts to Gemini with requests like, “Summarize the emails about quarterly planning” or “What were the company’s spending on the last marketing event?” Gemini then replies with a brief summary or the given information, along with the source email for further reference. While the traditional search bar remains a fixture in Gmail, the Gemini button is now placed beside it, symbolizing Google’s shift from traditional search functions to AI-powered interactions. However, users should remain cautious, as even the most advanced AI models, including Gemini, can occasionally produce inaccurate responses. The feature is currently exclusive to paying users, who can activate it by clicking the black star logo in the app’s top-right corner. Google has hinted at future expansions, including integrating Drive files into the Q&A function.

This rollout aligns with Google’s broader strategy of embedding Gemini across its product suite, from Google Docs to Google Calendar, aiming to justify the subscription cost by offering enhanced AI capabilities.
