The platform includes a built-in control system, dedicated firmware, and software, along with communication and safety features

Kawasaki Robotics (USA), Inc. is set to revolutionize robotics education with the launch of Astorino, an innovative and affordable robotics platform tailored for industrial and technical education. Debuting at the 2024 IMTS Smartforce Student Summit in Chicago from September 9-14, Astorino promises to bring hands-on robotics training within reach for educators across North America.

Astorino, created in collaboration with ASTOR and modeled after the Arduino platform, provides all the features of a contemporary industrial robot at a significantly lower price. The 12 kg, 6-axis robot, priced at just $5000, features a 1kg payload and is powered by a standard 110V outlet, making it easily adaptable to any classroom. The platform includes a built-in control system, dedicated firmware, and software, along with communication and safety features that mirror those found in professional industrial robots. One standout feature is the inclusion of STL files, enabling students to 3D print 99% of the robot’s parts, significantly reducing maintenance costs. Additionally, Kawasaki Robotics has created extensive training materials, such as a Train-the-Trainer course, to give teachers the skills they need to teach advanced robotics.

Astorino is designed to break down barriers to robotics education, allowing more students to gain the hands-on experience essential for success in today’s rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape. By making cutting-edge technology accessible, Kawasaki Robotics is helping to prepare the next generation of skilled technicians, operators, and engineers.
