LG Invests $10 Million in SBVA's Alpha Intelligence Fund to Boost AI Startups

The goal is to enhance LG’s technological prowess and explore new business opportunities across various sectors

LG Electronics has made a strategic investment of USD 10 million in the Alpha Intelligence Fund (AIF), a newly launched USD 130 million fund by SBVA, aiming to support the growth of AI and deep-tech startups. This move positions LG as a key limited partner in the fund, reflecting its commitment to advancing in the AI value chain.

SBVA, formerly known as SoftBank Ventures Asia, is curating a portfolio of high-growth-potential startups in AI, deep tech, and robotics. The fund will leverage SBVA’s extensive global network to foster the development of these startups, aligning with LG’s strategy of staying at the forefront of technological innovation. Eugene Yoo, vice president of LG’s Open Innovation Task, emphasized that this investment will help LG secure cutting-edge AI capabilities through open innovation and collaboration with promising startups. The goal is to enhance LG’s technological prowess and explore new business opportunities across various sectors.

This latest investment is part of LG’s broader strategy to transform into a Smart Life Solutions company. The company has been actively expanding its technological base, including a recent 80% stake acquisition in Athom, a smart home platform, and a USD 60 million investment in Bear Robotics, an AI-driven robotics startup. By strengthening its ties with innovative startups, LG aims to secure future technologies that will drive its next phase of growth, particularly in platform-based services, B2B, and mobility solutions.
