Airtel Faces Nationwide Mobile...Bharti Airtel experienced widespread mobile and broadband outages across India, with users facing call and data disruptions.
Bharti Airtel subscribers across India faced widespread disruption in both mobile and broadband services on Thursday, leaving many unable to make calls or access data. The outage, affecting several regions, prompted complaints from customers on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where frustrated users shared their experiences.
Downdetector.com, a widely followed website that monitors service outages, reported that 46% of users said they got a total blackout, whereas 32% said their signal was lost, and 22% had difficulties with mobile connectivity. A number of cities like all major urban centers of the state of Gujarat, including Delhi, Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, came under the list of areas affected; however, even regions like Lucknow, Kolkata, and Chennai are also partially affected.
Complaints flooded in the social media handles from Airtel subscribers claiming their devices, for days at times, threw up "No Network." The interruption appears to have struck across several cities in the county, although so far, a statement or cause of service disruption is not available, as released by the communications giant.
Bharti Airtel is one of India's largest telecom providers serving over 385 million users and holding a market share of 33.5 percent in the Indian telecom sector. The company has been making significant strides in its 5G adoption journey as well. The base of 5G has reached 90 million through October 2024. Despite its dominant position, the disruption on Thursday clearly showed that even the greatest telecom providers have challenges at maintaining consistent service.
The cause of the blackout remains unknown, and it cannot be ascertained when normal services will resume. On the other hand, attention to the problem has been high, and subscribers are eagerly expecting a response from Airtel to clarify the whole situation and offer any remedy available. So far, service disruptions remain in those areas.
