Japanese home fixtures manufacturer Takara Standard has initiated a long-term project known as the Space Project, which indicates its intention to take the bold step of reinventing resilience by modifying its century-old enamel coating technology that may be used in the aerospace industry.

The firm reported the venture is motivated by the fact that the commercial space industry has been growing at an alarming rate and there is growing involvement of the private sector. Initially, Takara Standard enamel coating was created for kitchen and bathroom use but was successfully tested to be highly resistant to high and low temperatures as well as physical loads in early simulated environments, qualities that place it as a product of interest in space use. This change is an indication of a more general trend of recreation of the idea of resilience that is, reusing old technologies to suit new industrial needs.
