The Socceroos are bracing for a "weird" atmosphere at Dallas Stadium when they face Egypt, with midfielder Connor Metcalfe recalling a bizarre experience from their last visit. As Australia prepares for their final group match, the famed home of the Dallas Cowboys might feel less like a fortress and more like a nightclub.

The Socceroos are in full preparation mode for Dallas Stadium, the iconic home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. But if their last visit is anything to go by, the famed arena could deliver a "weird" atmosphere for their final World Cup group match against Egypt.

Midfielder Connor Metcalfe, who played in Australia's 2-2 friendly draw against Mexico in Dallas back in September 2023, vividly remembers the unusual experience.

"It's an amazing stadium, it was a bit of a weird one, I remember for some reason they had a DJ playing during our game," Metcalfe told reporters from the Socceroos' Oakland base.

"I don't know why but every time Maty Ryan got the ball they would start playing a song, which was a bit weird.

"But it's an amazing stadium and the facilities are incredible.”

The current DJ at Dallas Stadium is Jesus "DJ Chuy" Salazar, who has previously soundtracked high-profile events at the 80,000-seat venue. NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal also took on the role during a college football playoff game last December.

While the Socceroos are focused on the game, the potential for a unique atmosphere remains part of the conversation. Egypt's star forward Mohamed Salah is under an injury cloud, but Metcalfe acknowledged the match could suit Australia's counter-attacking style.

"We haven't gone into that much detail, we've only seen a glimpse of the Iran game at the end and that was just chaotic," he said.

Metcalfe also admitted there is a sense of personal revenge on his mind, having been part of the Olyroos side that lost to Egypt at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

"They were quite a big, physical team. I remember it being really humid and hot (in Japan) and we didn't play our best game and they ruined our dream," he said.

As the Socceroos prepare for what could be a "weird" atmosphere at Dallas Stadium, The Silicon Review asks a final question. When a goalkeeper hears a song every time he touches the ball, is that a distraction or just another version of home advantage in the modern game?
