Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain defeated China's Bao Ziyi 5-0 in the final to win the women's 75 kg gold. After Mary Kom, she is the second Indian woman boxer to win gold at the Asian Games. The birthday girl gifted herself the second Asian Games medal, followed by her silver medal at Hangzhou 2023.

Lovlina Borgohain, a former world champion boxer, had intended to retire following the 2024 Olympics, but she changed her mind after failing to win a medal in Paris. And today it proved to be a wise choice as she won her first Asian Games gold medal on Friday in Nagoya, Japan. She had won bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but couldn’t win any medal at Paris Olympics.

She enhanced the silver she had won at the last Asian Games and ended India's 12-year drought for a women's boxing champion. “I wanted to quit boxing. But I continued, “I had to change the color of my medal [at the Asian Games]. It was very important. More important than anything that I continued.” She said after winning the gold medal, she also added, “That is how I continued. I am feeling good. I don't know how to celebrate my gold. It has just ended. I need some time to accept that I have won. I am feeling very good”. While mentioning about the lack of confidence, she said, “I had no confidence at that time, so if I had the chance to talk to my younger self I would tell her, 'You are confident, you are the best'. Now, I have a medal in every competition.”

She defeated China’s boxer Bao Ziyi with 5-0 and shown her dominance in the entire game. With Lovlina’s gold medal India reached at 6th place in the medal tally with 13 gold medals, out of the 73 medals.
