10 Best Artificial Intelligence Companies to Watch 2018
The Silicon Review
“Petuum is built on years of ground-breaking work on machine learning and distributed computing.”
Today’s artificial intelligence solutions tend to be specialized in specific applications and functions and rely on maintenance by a select few developers. They are talent-intensive, expensive, difficult to reproduce, and overall unsustainable. As a result, AI currently remains inaccessible to most organizations.Petuum is a software infrastructure and ecosystem provider that enables AI for the enterprise. Petuum’s operating system gives users a single platform to build any Machine Learning or Deep Learning application using large amounts of data, and deploy it at scale on any hardware – such as workstations, datacenters, the internet of things, and edge computing.
The Petuum development platform and gallery of AI building blocks is one such firm that works any programming language and any type of data, allowing managers and analysts to quickly build AI applications without any coding, while engineers and coders can further re-program applications as needed. With Petuum, various AI applications and hardware can be created and managed from a single laptop or terminal, driving higher productivity, better service, lower costs, and faster delivery. By standardizing AI solutions, Petuum lowers the barrier to its adoption and allows the integration of AI into every industry.

Industrial products
Industrial enterprises are on a constant quest to improve yield, improve quality and lower costs while meeting sustainability goals. With increasing digitization, more and more data is now available across all industrial sectors, but the sheer volume and variety of sensor data make it hard to harness practically. Taking advantage of the linear, non-linear, long-range, temporal or difficult-to-predict patterns in your data is challenging without an array of AI techniques at your disposal.
Petuum Industrial AI delivers sophisticated data processing capabilities, robust deep learning and machine learning techniques, and standardized integrations with operational control systems for solutions that learn and adapt continuously and offer a multi-layered, multi-faceted understanding of complex industrial systems. Petuum Industrial AI absorbs a variety of data types including time series data, unstructured log data, images, structured data and more, to learn and deliver precise forecasts of hundreds of parameters.
RPA + AI
Neurobots provide cutting-edge AI capabilities to robotics process automation (RPA) in an easy-to-implement software solution. Grounded in the first principle approach, which is the idea to break down complicated problems into basic elements and reassembling them from the ground up, Neurobots are fundamentally reimagining the mechanics of adopting AI, ML, and RPA. Neurobots infuse AI/ML to further enhance what are already effective automation processes with sophisticated capabilities that include context understanding, decision making, and more. Truly realizing the vision of RPA + AI. Kaibot is designed to allow anyone to build a multi-lingual domain-specific interactive engine that understands the nuances of human language from the very beginning. Kaibot can be applied in a variety of interactive interfaces and is customizable for many business use cases.
Healthcare
The Petuum team, with unmatched expertise in AI, unblocks enterprise adoption of AI. We enable the fast development and deployment of AI solutions, allowing your organization to unlock the value of AI effortlessly. Our top-ranked AI scientists work with your enterprise to customize and deploy a library of solutions that address various complex healthcare use cases.
Petuum AI solutions solve the most complex understanding, recommendation and prediction problems in a range of healthcare use cases. Advanced Natural Language Processing extracts and collates critical information from patient records, giving clinicians direct and quick access without spending an hour or more combing through the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Predictive algorithms suggest disease diagnoses and medications that factor in all data from the patient’s EHR that a physician might miss, preventing possible contraindications and assisting physicians with the reconciliation process. Process data of different modalities to generate predictions for patient outcomes based on different treatment plans. Powerful computer vision is applied to images such as X-rays and CT scans for lung disease detection, arthritis detection, wound imaging, and more that are not captured by the naked eye. Condensing patient records generates a concise and fluent summary or problem list of a patient’s past medical history.
Current research
Major Petuum innovations include the parameter server architecture and theory, the stale-synchronous parallel bridging model, elastic resource scheduling technology, and managed network communication technology in high-performance distributed systems for ML and DL – as well as new ML and DL models and algorithms for actionable, human-level understanding and learning from images, videos and natural language.
The Stalwart behind the glorious triumph of Petuum
Eric Xing is the Founder, Chief Scientist, and also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Petuum. He completed his undergraduate study at Tsinghua University and holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the State University of New Jersey, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His main research interests are the development of machine learning and statistical methodology, and large-scale computational systems and architectures, for solving problems involving automated learning, reasoning, and decision-making in high-dimensional, multimodal, and dynamic possible worlds in artificial, biological, and social systems. Prof. Xing currently serves or has served the following roles: associate editor of the Journal of the American Statistical Association (JASA), Annals of Applied Statistics (AOAS), IEEE Journal of Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) and the PLoS Journal of Computational Biology; action editor of the Machine Learning Journal (MLJ) and Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR); member of the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Information Science and Technology (ISAT) advisory group. He is also the Associate Department Head of the Machine Learning Department, founding director of the Center for Machine Learning and Health at Carnegie Mellon University; he is a Fellow of the Association of Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and an IEEE Fellow.
