Endpoint management is the ability to centrally discover, provision, deploy, update, and troubleshoot endpoint devices within an organization.
The task of managing IT assets is very challenging as a business expands beyond a few distributed servers, workstations, laptops, tablets and smartphones – otherwise known as endpoints. It is even harder with devices that are heterogeneous or that travel outside of the organization’s network.
In light of the above-mentioned scenario, we are thrilled to present baramundi software.
baramundi develops and markets endpoint management software for various industries worldwide.
The company’s software automates routine tasks and provides an overview of the status of all endpoints. Its solutions include endpoint management, mobile device management, OS installation, software deployment, windows migration, inventory, license management, IT security, compliance management, and vulnerability management. Thus, baramundi helps IT departments to save time, cut costs and work noticeably more efficiently.
The company was incorporated in 2000 and is headquartered in Augsburg, Germany.
Uwe Beikirch, baramundi software Managing Director, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review. Below is an excerpt.
Q. Why was the company set up? And how did you expand your company and its offerings over the years?
After two freelance programmers had to perform a massive, native Windows-Install on thousands of computers for a telecommunication company, they realized that there was no software solution on the market that could manage the simultaneous remote deployment of Windows. In 2000, they decided to set up their own company. One by one they increased their portfolio with other useful administration tools. Today, with 18 years of experience in the IT business, baramundi serves over 2,500 customers of all industries and from all over the world.
The comprehensive baramundi product portfolio has grown and helped to reduce IT spending through automation, and at the same time improves IT response times, while providing an overview of all endpoints in the company, and ensures fast and reliable patching of vulnerabilities. Our software is still completely made in Germany. Our customers are also supported by access to our active baramundi community of users and partners, so that help is never more than a few clicks away. We have a presence in the UK and the US since 2015 and 2017 respectively.
Q. A company’s behavior is as important as its economic performance or the quality of its products. How do you interpret this saying?
Quality is part of our company’s DNA, but likewise, fair treatment and loyalty towards our employees, partners and customers is one of our core values. For example, during the economic crisis following the Lehman bankruptcy, many of our customers had problems paying for their maintenance contracts in time. Thanks to a very lenient and accommodating policy during this period, we were able to keep those companies as paying customers and with the recovery of the markets have more than made up for the intermittent revenue shortfall.
Q. Is your company a ‘leader or a follower’?
baramundi has been a market leader in Unified Endpoint Management Solutions in Germany for quite a while now. Especially concerning Industry 4.0 and IoT, we currently have an edge in innovations that we intend to expand over the next years. As newcomers to the US, we are currently more in a follower position, at least until we have become established enough with partners and distributors.
Q. ‘Leaders cannot optimize results by themselves; they need employees’ support and assistance.’ How does your company interpret this saying?
Team spirit is one of the watchwords within our company. Flat hierarchies and an always approachable management ensure that there is a tight cohesion within our company. It also guarantees that grievances are addressed quickly and efficiently, so everyone can do their job with a minimum of red tape and unrelated problems.
Q. If you have to list five factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?
We have a great team – not just experienced programmers and innovative thinkers, but also a sophisticated sales force, which guarantees our sales people are always busy. Our support staff always has our customers’ back and last but not least, we have a really great product that turns customers into fans.
Q. Where do you see your company a couple of years from now?
baramundi is steadily gaining a foothold in the U.S. and we are planning to develop new markets across the country. From the product perspective, baramundi will continue to enhance its portfolio.
Apart from managing office IT devices, securing laptops, PCs or mobile devices, the company is also doing exceptionally well in terms of managing IT devices in clients’ production environments.
The next big thing for baramundi is the management of IoT devices. The company anticipates to not only monitor the clients’ IT environment but their entire production environment.

Uwe Beikirch has been a member of baramundi’s management board since 2010. He is responsible for marketing and sales and successfully established baramundi subsidiaries in the US and UK. Before joining baramundi, Uwe held various senior management positions with NEXUS, a leading software manufacturer in the field of healthcare.
Dr. Lars Lippert, who is responsible for R&D, joined baramundi’s management board in 2017 after he held the position as Head of Product Development at baramundi. Prior to that, he was in charge of several senior management positions with Step Ahead and Microsoft.
