Using its trademarked Design Deck client preferences tool, the firm’s work is highly customized and ranges from classic to contemporary looks.

Barbara Vanderkolk Gardner founded Collins Interiors over 15 years ago and serves as the
Chief Executive Officer of the firm.

Q. How did the idea of Collins Interiors originate? And please brief us about the history so far.

Collins Interiors was founded in 2006. The firm specializes in creating luxurious residential interiors for discerning clients in Sarasota, Florida, and throughout the country and internationally. Most of our projects are waterfront homes with values from $2-20 million dollars.

Q. How does Collins redefine luxury in interior design?

We start our process of working with each client using a trademarked tool called The Design Deck to help us understand each client’s tastes, preferences, priorities, and lifestyle, as well as desired investment and project time frame. This results in highly personalized interiors that not only meet but exceed our client’s expectations.

Q. Collins is an award-winning interior design firm. What approach did the firm take over the years to achieve this feat?

We take into account the special needs of children and pets, special collections, unique artwork, and other priorities of each client.

We have relationships with more than a hundred companies for the finest fabrics, window treatments, lighting, flooring, artwork, and accessories to get the client the best products at the best value.

We have workrooms that create the best bedding, curtains, upholstery, area rugs, flooring, and furnishings. We work with skilled lighting, security, home entertainment, and landscaping experts.

Tell us, what’s next for your firm.

While we greatly enjoy working with new clients, we take pride in the number of repeat clients we have had the opportunity of doing business with over the years. We often do second, third, or even fourth homes for them. That said, we will continue to serve our clients and introduce new services to strengthen our portfolio.

Q. What level of growth do you hope to see in the next five years?

We are fortunate to live in an area that is experiencing tremendous growth due to the beautiful weather, friendly people, the variety of outdoor recreation opportunities, and a hospitable climate for business. So, we hope to see incredible growth in the next couple of years.
