A journey of the company’s CEO that began at the age of 14, marked by the pursuit of financial independence against a middle-class backdrop, led to early entrepreneurship and the confidence to undertake larger ventures. “Starting at 14, I gained financial independence despite our middle-class background. Early entrepreneurship built my confidence for larger ventures, including successfully starting, scaling, and exiting a business. With this foundation, I set my sights on a greater purpose, driving me to secure admission into my PhD program, where I ranked 2nd in an all-India exam. In my PhD program, I delved into uncharted research areas, selecting an unconventional topic. Despite initial uncertainty, my dedication yielded groundbreaking developments, making my research highly sought after. However, gaining approval for my unconventional topic was a significant challenge. My goal was to revolutionize catalysis through green chemistry, turning the seemingly unusable into a valuable asset. Transitioning to the United States presented another set of hurdles, requiring me to secure scholarships to facilitate my journey to the University of Reno, Nevada, where I explored catalysis for green chemistry. Collaborating with esteemed institutions such as the Department of Energy, Starbucks, and Foster Farms, I spearheaded projects that aimed to convert waste materials into viable fuels like biodiesel. My expertise attracted an Oil and Gas company, where I applied green chemistry principles through patents and research, leading to tangible product development. The pivotal moment arrived when I decided to embark on my own entrepreneurial journey, starting from scratch in my garage with a blender and a table. With determination and resilience, I steered the company from its inception to a valuation of $70 million today, without financial assistance from venture capitalists. Overcoming diversification challenges, we expanded our product line to over 100 unique offerings,” said Susanta Mohapatra.

Susanta holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and he has completed his Postdoctoral work in Chemical Engineering at the University of Nevada Reno. During his impressive career spanning over 20 years, Dr. Mohapatra has secured six granted patents in areas like enhanced oil recovery, renewable chemicals, and surfactant chemistry, with seven more patents currently under review. He has authored over 100 international publications and presentations and has been invited to deliver more than 30 keynote talks at international conferences.
