Radical rethinking of how an organization leverages modern technologies, processes, and people to alter the performance of an organization is Digital Transformation. It is what happens to an organization when they adopt innovative ways to achieve technological advancement. Digital tools are used to bring a change and they have the potential to bring in some cultural changes as well. Digital transformation is not a product, but it is something that affects everything it comes across in almost every industry. Companies usually embark on their digital transformation journey to counter the potential disruption from startups and small sized companies. The main reasons for opting for digital transformation is to accelerate innovation, improve the capabilities of current offering, and experiment with new digital services.

We expect technology to work for us seamlessly because our world is digital. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), mobile applications, and clouds require a new type of analytics, management, storage, and automation. Indium Software is a technology solutions company committed to delivering customer-centric high quality solutions across Big Data Engineering & Analytics, Product Development and Independent QA. The company is based in Cupertino, California and it was founded in 1999. Q. Digital transformation must provide competitive edge to the customers. How do you gain insights to keep your clients ahead of the curve?

Different businesses are in different stages of the transformation. Some are starting in setting up the data platform, some are in the intermediate stage of using BI layer and some are in the advanced stage of ML. Based on the stages, we recommend solutions. We also look at the existing architecture and do not try to force fit our solutions. Our motto is to add value without being a complete change agent. Radical transformation might unsettle some clients, we alter the data flow gradually for most of the clients. This helps in clients trusting us with our solutions.

Q. Data engineering/ data analytics are expected to continue to play a vital role in the ingestion, computation, storage, and management of information. How do you interpret this?

With data growth expected to be around 150 zetta bytes in 2025, the possibilities to generate insights is beyond our imagination. First thing to do is to steam and store into a location which in itself is a big task. Post this, comes the transformation, computation and analytics. For the sustenance of business, every company is trying to be an active respondent rather than a reactive one. It will be wrong to think of ingestion, storage and MIS as a separate IT division supporting marketing and operations. Data engineering and analytics are becoming a core function rather than a support function in the new era.

Q. What are some of the significant challenges you faced in initial years? How did you overcome them?

We faced multiple challenges in the initial years; however the significant ones are the changing landscape in terms of technologies in trend. Different business problems and different sets of analytics used from numerical to text to image, and employee attrition.

We overcame these problems by focusing on a fewer set of technologies to develop capability. These technologies were those that helped us build a strong foundation and also made it easier to develop other skills. Focused on capability development and problems that were relevant to the current businesses. To reduce employee attrition rate, we built a healthy environment for the employees to self-learn, try new things as POCs, innovate and thereby enriching their capability in analytics space.

Q. How do you deal with the “never ending change” in digital transformation?

Digital Transformation is a continuous process due to frequent change in business models, technologies and customer expectations. The key to deal with this never-ending change in digital transformation is to be agile and respond quickly. We have adopted the following strategies to address the changes that come in thick and fast with shorter cycles of transformation:

Consistent Capability Development in Emerging Technologies – We have invested in ensuring the workforce including leaders firstly to be capable in dealing with current technologies and then build capability in the emerging technologies that can impact businesses positively.

Efficiency & Innovation – We encourage and enable our workforce to be creative, solve problems innovatively and efficiently.

Talent Acquisition - Recruit employees in emerging and niche technologies and build around these employees, thereby developing internal staff in these skills. This also keeps us agile so that we can quickly address our customer needs.

Q. How do you market your services?

We attend industry events, promote our services digitally through webinars, podcast, social media marketing, and search engine optimization for organic web enquiries.
