In the digital world we live in, technology has always played a crucial role in the field of medicine. The rise in the use of smartphones and software applications has developed a new channel for data exchange among both clinicians and patients. Teledentistry results from the latest developments in the medical field and involves the exchange of clinical images and information over remote locations for dental consultation and treatment.

Teledentistry has the potential to solve various problems in regards to cost efficiency, quality of care, and accessibility. Through teleconsultation, a patient can gain access to a larger community of experts via dentists in nearby communities and specialty care immediately. It is an ecosystem where dentists and patients can go for anything dental-related. There may be various firms delivering excellent teledentistry solutions but Dentulu stands out from the rest.

Dentulu’s primary mission is for patients to gain increased access to dental care globally by minimizing the myriad of challenges that exist. They provide virtual dentistry as well as mobile dental professionals who travel to a patient’s home, business, or hospital to provide dental work onsite. Dentulu also provides at-home treatments similar to smile direct club with clear aligners and other dental treatments that are directly shipped to the patient’s home. For dental professionals, Dentulu provides an ecosystem where the majority of the software services they require are consolidated in a cohesive marketplace and allows dental professionals to find everything they are looking for in one place. Dentulu also provides products, equipment, continuing education credits, and has become an “all in one” one-stop solution for dental professionals.

In conversation with Dr. Arash Hakhamian DDS, CEO of Dentulu

Q. When a person needs emergency care, accessing telemedicine first may delay treatment. How can we overcome this?

Most patients experience emergencies during the after-hours when the majority of dental offices are closed. This is the reason why most dental emergency patients end up in the Emergency Room to access dental care where they often spend several hours waiting to be seen. Most Emergency Rooms have no dental department so patients usually end up wasting their hours only to leave with medication and instructions to find a dentist. Dentulu does not delay treatment and facilitates dental treatment by virtually addressing non-emergencies and helping true emergency patients get the proper advice within minutes of registration. Dentulu providers are also qualified to write virtual prescriptions or e-prescriptions which saves emergency patients their time and money by helping them to see a dentist instantly and at a significantly lower price compared to ER visits.

Q. Hackers and other criminals may be able to access a patient’s medical data, especially if the patient accesses telemedicine on a public network or via an unencrypted channel. What are the different security measures implemented by you to secure your solutions?

Dentulu provides enterprise-level security and protection to all of its users. By implementing end-to-end encryption as well as secure cloud servers, sensitive patient data is nearly impossible to become compromised. Dentulu also implements bio-security features and a 2-step authentication to all of its users. Dentulu only utilizes HIPAA-compliant integrations to ensure that the system is secure and scalable worldwide.

Q. State laws vary, and clinicians may not be able to practice medicine across state lines, depending on the state in which they hold their license and the state in which the patient lives. How do you deal with the licensing issues?

Dentulu’s software automatically ensures that patients are seeing local dentists who are licensed AND can also see the patient when they come to their clinic in person after the virtual visits. The software automatically matches the patient to the closest dental provider in that geographic region. Dentulu also allows dentists with multiple dental licenses to operate virtually across multiple states and help expand their reach through Teledentistry.

Q. Finding the right digital platform to use can be challenging. Also, a weak connection can make it difficult to offer quality care. How can clinicians overcome technological concerns?

With so many pop-up companies moving into space, it is often challenging to find the best software company for each office. Dentulu was awarded the highest honor from the American Dental Association as the best Teledentistry company with their “Best of Class Technology” award for 2 years in a row. Furthermore, Dentulu provides the majority of its Teledentistry solutions for FREE to dental professionals so they can experience the benefits of Telemedicine. Dentulu is a company made by dental professionals with other dental professionals in mind. This is why Dentulu’s founders were able to address the many pain points experienced by dentists, and how they came up with effective and efficient tools to resolve them.

Q. “Earning trust and respect of consumers all around the world is through consistent focus on delivering high quality in all of our actions,” how do you interpret this statement?

Delivering the highest quality through consistent action is the key to Dentulu’s success. To establish itself as the dominant player in the dental market, Dentulu has consistently provided best-of-class products and services that have been repeatedly validated by the dental industry. With thousands of dental providers on the network, Dentulu actively seeks the feedback and recommendations of its customers to ensure that their value propositions remain relevant as well as addressing the most important issues faced by dental professionals and consumers.

Q. Is it true that striving for both ‘ethics’ and ‘success’ in a business is a tough feat?

Dentulu’s definition of success lies in its ethical obligations to its users both on the side of professionals and patients. Many dental offices and companies are not owned by actual dentists and are only driven by profits but at Dentulu, the CEO and majority of investors are all dental professionals and doctors who have all taken an oath to put the patient first and do no harm.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

Dentulu is expanding globally and has made strong partnerships with several major retailers and dental institutions. Dentulu’s intraoral camera called the MouthCam is also gaining considerable interest and was voted as the best consumer intraoral camera in the dental industry allowing dental professionals to see inside the patient’s mouth from thousands of miles away. Dentulu is also working to expand its dental marketplace and mobile dentistry offerings with multiple partnerships to be released in 2021.
