Established in 2014, Pura created the world’s first smart fragrance diffuser. The simple yet elegant device plugs into any outlet. Pura’s fragrance brand marketplace allows customers to fully control the scents in their space anytime, anywhere, and from the biggest brands that people already know and trust.

Pura delivers premium, fine fragrances developed by master perfumers and world-class brands through smart technology that is made for home and life. The diffuser connects to a phone through WiFi, giving users the ability to control the intensity of a fragrance, create schedules, swap fragrances, turn on/off from anywhere, and change the nightlight color. Smart fragrance is unlocking the possibility of what fragrance does for its users, and Pura is helping people explore!

We interviewed Pura’s CEO and Co-founder, Bruno Lima, to find out more about the company’s innovations that are breaking fresh ground in the smart fragrance space. Read on for excerpts from the interview.

Q. What are the challenges you had to face while developing your products? How did you overcome them?

We have had incredible developers and engineers who have made this technology possible. With this new blend in industries, many challenges arise to make sure it’s working in the way that it should to give customers the right experience. An ongoing challenge is knowing exactly what our customers want or are drawn to with this new product that hasn’t been seen before. Finding that perfect balance isn’t easy, but that’s what makes it so exciting and personal.

Q. Developing high quality product needs support of high-level talent and dedication. How did you manage to form your dream team?

We feel so lucky to have already had such passionate, giving drivers in our circles from the beginning. It started with people who believed in what we could do and what scent could do too. That belief brought power to the team and the product, and has continued to draw in people who share that same belief and drive for moving forward and giving in a generous, uplifting way.

Q. Product customization is the key to serving your customer base successfully. How flexible are your products for customization?

The customization and control aspect is one of the greatest things about Pura! There’s so little we get to control in life, and so much of it doesn’t seem perfect. Controlling your space and the environment you’re in is so powerful, we don’t even fully understand the difference it makes! It’s so cool to be able to change moods and make things better from the click of a button with the scent in the air. Things might not always feel perfect or controlled, but the scent of your life can bring a little more personalized perfection to the ups and downs of every single day. Fragrance is such a fun and powerful tool to customize life in a way that is so beneficial.

Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful CEO?

Perseverance, care, and passion. If you can incorporate these into everything you do, there are no limits.

Q. If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Make sure you love the field you’re planning to work in. It’s going to be a huge part of your life, so make sure it’s something you want to do for years to come.

Q. What do you think is the most memorable moment in your career?

That’s a hard question, and it may seem like a silly answer, but I love working at Pura so much, and there are so many memorable moments so often that it’s too hard to pick just one. This last year has been amazing.

Q. How do you market your services?

People love to hear about Pura based on experience, so word of mouth is huge. We have a great group of retail partners and brands that we collaborate with, as well as marketing automation methods, advertising, and social media.


Q. Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

We have been working on a couple of really exciting projects, and we can’t wait to share some of them soon. We have loved listening to our customers and receiving feedback from so many people, and we are looking forward to giving everyone incredible experiences with Pura that will just keep getting better.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

Pura is going to keep growing, with extensive hiring and the expansion of our amazing team. The office space is getting better and bigger, with more plans for retail in the future. We are looking forward to some amazing partnerships and collaborations with top brands that will continue to take the marketplace to the next level. Plus, we’re developing exciting new products to benefit your life and help people to realize the importance of scent. This next year will be big for Pura!

Bruno Lima, CEO and Co-founder

Originally from Brazil, Bruno learned from a young age to appreciate good scents and working for something powerful. He graduated with a BA in Manufacturing Engineering Technology from Brigham Young University, and he has always been passionate about creating and understanding how things work and how to improve the consumer experience. His innovative mentality and constant desire to improve landed him in the 98th percentile of leadership effectiveness across the entire country and keeps Pura ahead of its competitors and at the top of the industry.
