Fortuna Business Management Consulting provides a range of services to help businesses improve their performance, increase profitability, and achieve their strategic goals. Some of the services the company offers include scalable, on-demand teams, contact center solutions, veteran hiring solutions, enterprise resource planning, advanced business analysis, remote support services, and custom software development. The motivation behind starting Fortuna Business Management Consulting was to help businesses succeed by providing them with effective and practical business solutions. Jack Smith, CEO of Fortuna BMC noticed how many businesses struggle with common challenges such as poor strategic planning, inefficient processes, and ineffective marketing. There was a need for a consulting firm that could provide customized solutions that fit each business’s unique needs, so he decided to create the solution, and that’s how Fortuna Business Management Consulting was born. Fortuna BMC exists to improve the lives of our people and our customers.

Fortuna BMC wants to be a company that makes a difference in the world. The company has a heart for giving back and improving the communities it is a part of, especially the veteran community. Fortuna BMC has recently launched a pilot program in collaboration with the Transition Assistance Program (TAP), where it works with retiring and separating soldiers twice a week at the Fort Bragg military base in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The goal of this program is to link veterans and communities together while making sure that veterans have all the tools they need to succeed while transitioning into the civilian workforce. Fortuna BMC wants its customers to know that when they work with it, every dollar spent is doing good in the world.

In conversation with Jack Smith, CEO of Fortuna Business Management Consulting

Q. Consultants do not come with guarantees, so there is always a possibility that you might not achieve the results you had planned when you had hired them irrespective of the cost. How can businesses overcome this uncertainty?

At the end of the day, consulting is about shared understanding and managing expectations. The goal of consultancy is to facilitate an outcome or journey along pursuit of an outcome. Along that path you must manage your expectations, as well as your customer’s expectations, and be clear about what you really can
and cannot affect as you go. Things change along the way, so you need to communicate any changes early and often. The better the dialogue, the better the relationship with the customer, and the more likely you are to achieve your desired outcomes.

Q. Expertise is the first and biggest advantage of a right consultant. How do you source the right talents to maintain the quality of your services?

We are uniquely positioned to source our talent because we can advertise our jobs directly to the United States military. We have a very innovative way of working with soldiers and helping them understand how their careers match our jobs, so that network allows us to connect to our community. At a local level through the military bases we support, we can directly advertise our out-of-market jobs. Additionally, we have the capability to directly advertise those jobs to historically underutilized business zones. We are the highest scoring new entrant to the MSEP (military spouse employment program), chaired by Dr. Jill Biden, where we are bringing remote and transferable jobs to the military spouse community. We also bring jobs directly to the P3 (public private partnerships) community through the Army Reserves to make sure reservists are actively employed while they are not actively deployed.

Q. Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

Fortuna BMC is excited to be launching two new services. First, we are launching our Personal Protective and Emergency Medical Response Solutions. We are also launching our Veteran Hiring Solution, where we can help businesses reach their DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) goals by directly advertising their jobs to our pipeline of transitioning soldiers, reservists, veterans, and military spouses. We have multiple contracts that will allow us to connect military bases to communities, so it allows us to get a grouping of jobs in an area and connect to the base there. This way, we can keep more soldiers in the communities they have been a part of rather than having to make them move every time they leave the service.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

We are excited for the future at Fortuna BMC. We learned we are good at solving problems and have solved two big problems for ourselves over the past two years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we learned how to grow at scale and build teams on-demand rapidly and effectively. And we learned how to do that consistently with veterans. Now we can do that predictably and repeatedly at a global level, so we can begin to make a glocal impact.

Along with his efforts to improve the veteran community, he is also a passionate advocate for his local community.
