Quantum Steppe Advisory (QSA) was conceptualized in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with a clear vision to reimagine the role of consulting in the human capital space. Could you provide a brief overview of the services you offer?

Innovation is a core value of ours at Quantum Steppe Advisory. How does your collaboration with institutions like the Disruptive Leadership Institute Singapore influence the development of future-centric, research-based concepts for your clients?

At Quantum Steppe Advisory, we believe innovation is the engine that drives transformation—challenging the status quo, reframing perspectives, and envisioning a better future. Our collaborations are deeply rooted in this philosophy.

Working closely with institutions such as the Disruptive Leadership Institute Singapore and NewlandRock UK, we focus on leadership competency research tailored for today’s disruptive and fast-evolving landscape. These partnerships play a crucial role in shaping bespoke Leadership Development Programs for top teams and board members, aligning with the realities of modern leadership challenges.

We also actively engage with partners like GloCoach, APAC on AI driven talent profiling and analytics, Maven7 APAC on organizational network and trust analytics, DarwinBox APAC for holistic HR technology integration, NewLandRock, UK for leadership talent management, The Disruptive Leadership Institute Singapore in the area of disruptive leadership and it’s role in managing today’s highly dynamic business environment and Talreso APAC for HR and payroll outsourcing. Closer to home, we collaborate closely with Learning Edge Consulting, KCom Academy Malaysia and OulbyZ Consulting Thailand  in the specific areas of talent development / specialist training and multi-generational related engagements. Together, we co-develop research-based, future-oriented frameworks that are embedded into our client engagements—shaping both our approach and the uniqueness of the outcomes that we deliver.

Regionally, our joint initiatives with Quality Resources Indonesia and the Pragma & Will Group Thailand are creating critical awareness around the impact of AI on human capital and organizational productivity and inturn support digital transformation within the Human Capital arena across Southeast Asia.

In our pursuit of societal impact, particularly for the next generation of talent, we collaborate with institutions such as Esil University Kazakhstan, Universiti Teknologi Petronas Malaysia, and Saito University College Malaysia, to name a few. These efforts contribute to rethinking curriculum design and ensuring educational outcomes are aligned with the demands expected of the workforce of the future..

Your approach involves co-crafting solutions with clients to ensure the best outcomes. Can you share an example of how this collaborative process has led to a successful transformation for a client?

The days of conventional “black-box consulting” have long ended. No longer are clients satisfied with getting the answers with little or no appreciation of how these answers are derived. It has long been our view that work must be done together with the client and only then will mutual respect be earned and trust developed. Co-crafting of solutions not only develops an appreciation of how solutions are arrived at, but there is also ownership from the client that it’s a right solution for them and critically, there is a large element of knowledge transfer playing out between us and the client team. This knowledge transfer is key for future sustainability of the solution that has been developed and the implementation of the same.

In a recent ship and port management merger integration work that we were consulting in, not only did we work with the client team to co-develop the job complexities as against the future organization structure of the newly integrated entity, but there was a clear transfer of knowledge in the way they were to work on future changes to the roles, independently of us, when the need arose.

In another instance where leadership competencies were co-crafted for a noted social impact foundation, we worked with the client to ensure that all functions within the organization played a significant role in the development of their specific leadership / managerial competencies. This included working with the leaders and senior managers of the respective functions as well as with the internal HR team to ensure that they fully understood why certain processes were conducted the way they did and the managerial competencies that were identified and firmed up accordingly. In this way when it comes to the measurement of such competencies at the end of year review, it can be done quite easily and in a seamless fashion using internal resources.       

In all instances where collaborative efforts were put in by ourselves and the client team, we have found that the solutions which were co-crafted were significantly more robust in nature, had better buy-in and ownership by all leaders within the client environment and more critically, leaders were more accountable to successfully implement the same.

Given the rapid advancements in technology and the emergence of AI platforms, how does Quantum Steppe Advisory help organizations navigate these changes to maintain a sustainable future?

As part of our innovative way of work with our clients, inculcating very different perspectives to challenge the status quo is the norm for us. Raising those difficult questions at the very highest levels of the organization (at Board / Shareholder and Top Team levels assist us in setting the scene for the work that is expected of us. That said the ability of organizations to navigate rapid technological shifts, disruptive business conditions and AI advancements now becomes just that much more difficult to manage using past practices and norms of work. Human-centred strategies now become key for success. Fit for role discussions now become critical for sustainability. Mental model reshaping now becomes crucial for growth. 

Our work with clients focuses on the readiness of their talent pool and the top team to embrace such seismic shifts in work whether it be in the quality of the talent pool, the capability of the pool to meet the expectations of the future demands of the roles that they are in or capacity of the leaders to effect the outcomes required. All this is done to put into play a longer term resilience within the organisation so as to maintain a sustainable future.

Through executive coaching and specific leadership development programs, QSA equips leaders to make informed, future-focused decisions that balance innovation with environmental and social responsibility. Given the tremendous disruption that is playing out within the business environment today, the future for human capital consulting is indeed rich and colorful to say the least. The ability to make positive impact into the way people think, behave and work sets the very foundational basis of us at QSA. In all honesty, our work with AI platforms has only just begun. As we progress to new levels of maturity and usage within the generative AI space specifically within the human capital context, the coming years ahead promises significant change to the way we work with our clients. We envisage the ‘fad’ of today becoming the norm of tomorrow in the way we deal with our clients and the way our clients manage their talent pool respectively.
