Modern businesses of today can mobilize technology to accelerate their growth trajectory. Technologies like AI/ ML and automation help businesses optimize workflows and invest in better employee experience. This means that every business must leverage and stay up-to-date with the latest in technology in the digital era. While many consulting firms can help with this, it’s fair to say that the consulting game has changed and become very transactional. Technologies require a deeper understanding of your business, and that’s where Boston, MA-headquartered Infused Innovations comes in.

Founded in 1998, Infused Innovations helps businesses adapt and responsibly leverage emerging technologies. Its goal is to accelerate every organization’s ability to transform digitally. Infused Innovations is a true partner you’re looking for on the journey of Digital Transformation. The company has had a splendid record of delivering quality results for its clients, but Infused Innovations is also widely known for maintaining a great work culture.

We recently interviewed Jeff Wilhelm, Founder and CEO of Infused Innovations, to know more about the company’s work culture. Read on for the excerpts from the interview.

Q. Explain your services in brief. What solutions does Infused Innovations offer businesses?

At Infused Innovations, we help businesses adapt and responsibly leverage emerging technologies. Our goal is to accelerate every organization’s ability to digitally transform. Our Secure Intelligent Workplace™ solution provides organizational control, efficiency, and accelerates the ability for a company to grow. This transformation enables your organization to create an identity-based perimeter to protect your sensitive data while empowering your employees. With efficient, seamless access to technology, powerful tools for individual and collaborative work, integrated information discovery and intelligent facilities, we transform organizations for the better. We also offer a full suite of digital transformation, advisory services, innovation services, and data and analytics services. And our Accelerators offer some of our services pre-packaged for quicker time-to-value.

Q. What does a workday at Infused Innovations look like?

Outside of meetings and project obligations, I would like to think we have created a culture of communication and trust. Our employees do not have designated working hours, rather, they are measured by the value they bring to our organization. This gives them the flexibility to not feel tied to their chair for eight hours a day, which is better for their overall well-being ability to produce quality work. For example, Melissa from our team has the flexibility to start her work day at 5:30AM in the morning and get a couple hours of work in. She can take a quick break to have breakfast with her son at home and then drop him off at school and head back to her workday. She may hop into a meeting or two for a couple hours, and then have the flexibility to work solo on projects for the week. She is able to grab her son at school around 2PM and have that flexibility to spend time with him before finishing off her last projects. Melissa could also find time in the day to go out for a walk outside or grab a quick coffee with a friend and break up her work day. We value giving our employees the ability to not only work flexible hours to accommodate their personal lives, but also to help them have ultimate health and personal freedom while also producing their best work. It means a lot to us to be able to provide that for our employees.

Q. ‘When people are having fun, they work better together and they collectively feel inspired to produce better work.’ Tell us about workplace activities and events that Infused Innovations has incorporated into its organization?

About a year ago, we realized we wanted to bring all of the fun you would experience in a physical office to our work from home environment. We have monthly team events where everyone can bring their favorite drink and play virtual games. There’s a lot of banter and laughing, and this is where true relationships beyond the workplace form. We usually have gift cards at stake just to make the games more exciting. We also realized the importance of that water cooler, candid social chat that would have if you were in the physical office so we created space for company coffee chats and weekly check in meetings where we talk about not only the progress of projects, but something we’ve accomplished in our personal lives as well. We talk about business, but we also talk about our lives outside of work. People need that social relief/support and we understand the value in it.

Q. Growing the company based on employees’ passions must be the priority. Do you ask your employees what they are interested in doing and how they would like to see their career unfold?

We recognize that a company is only as strong as the passion and drive of its staff. Every employee is enabled and empowered to craft their own direction, trainings are fully paid for, certifications are embraced and celebrated, and new ideas are welcomed. Our newest line of business, offering R&D and Innovation “as a service” to clients, grew out of an employee’s excitement around “the new and the next” and desire to build a framework to deliver collaborative innovation to clients. We allow our employees to pursue projects that showcase their skillsets and passion as long as they align with our company values and goals. This ultimately creates a happier employee and makes for better customer service when there is a shared passion that is being pursued.

Q. A good workplace stresses teamwork while still encouraging individual achievement and creativity. Does your company follow the same strategy?

Individual achievements and creativity are celebrated at Infused Innovations. At our all-hands meetings, we schedule staff to talk about recent work they have done, and everyone is empowered to blog, participate in webinars or podcasts, and be active in their communities. We reward our employees for taking part in these activities with gift cards and recognition. We find that their collaborative work and sharing model brings out the best in our staff.

Q. Trust is a difficult attribute to measure and a delicate dynamic to maintain. How do you maintain this with your employees?

Because Infused Innovations has always been a 100% remote/ work-from-home company, we measure employees not on “time in chair” but on meaningful contributions, customer experience and satisfaction, and quality outcomes. We implicitly trust our staff to be adults, communicate effectively with others on their team, and do what is in our customers’ best interests. By having all-hands meeting where people can share their contributions and work together, we lift up what we value and celebrate it.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way? Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

We have a very close partnership with Microsoft, who is constantly innovating across verticals. We follow closely what they are doing, and then create best-practices for aligning their technologies with meaningful positive outcomes for our clients. Our Innovations Services line of business is our newest offering, and enables clients to continue pushing forward creatively with a partner to help them realize new products or services that their own customers value.

Jeff Wilhelm, Founder & CEO

Prior to building his own company, Jeff experienced first-hand that many managed services providers were prioritizing profit over client relationships, and it just felt too transactional to him. After numerous roles and client interactions focused too heavily on the tactical than the strategic, he decided to start a company, now called Infused Innovations, built on interpersonal collaboration and ethics that would set new standards for running a consulting firm.

Jeff’s current focus is architecting Infused Innovations’ vision for a Secure Intelligent Workplace, which delivers security and productivity aligned to a zero-trust security framework. His primary goal is to ensure that strong security doesn’t negatively impact client organizations’ workflow, operations, and automation opportunities
