An Interview with Avetis Antaplyan, HIRCLOUT's Founder & CEO. We discuss how to scale a company by hiring and retaining the best talent in technology


Globally, the one industry that has continued to add jobs is the IT/Technology Sector. With high demand and low supply, third party Recruitment firms are needed to bring in top talent. The best talent is not always readily available and rarely unemployed, so a third-party Recruiting firm’s job is to uncover, recruit and deliver outstanding talent to their clients.

In conversation with Avetis Antaplyan, Founder & CEO of HIRECLOUT

Q. What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful CEO?

The three most essential skills that a successful CEO must possess in my opinion are strong work ethics, resilience, and passion. It is not easy to build or manage a growing company so you need to love what you do, be willing and able to put in long and hard hours and be resilient against all the challenges.

Q. What would you say is the single most influential factor of your career’s success?

I believe that it has been my ability to figure out what challenges a business is facing and helping them eliminate those bottlenecks. I also truly care about the long-term impact of my work and relationships, and because of that, we have built our businesses around referrals and repeat business.

Q. What other CEOs do you look up to? Why?

I look up to normal, successful Founders and CEOs who I know personally. I don’t go chasing famous people. I would much rather sit and chat with Founders or CEOs of a $50-100-million-dollar business who have built it from scratch rather than listen to some podcast of Jeff Bezos or some famous billionaire.

Q. If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

I would say buckle up because it is going to be a wild, bumpy ride. If you don’t have the stomach, work ethics, and stamina to withstand all the ups and downs, don’t bother. Success comes with a lot of sacrifices as well as financial & emotional staying power.

Q. What do you think is the most memorable moment in your career?

My most memorable moment was when I took a leap of faith to leave a cushy executive role at Kaplan to work at a startup, and then start a company from scratch.
