Kaman operates in the aerospace and distribution markets. The company operates through two segments, Distribution and Aerospace.

The Distribution segment distributes electro-mechanical products; bearings; and power transmission, motion control, and electrical and fluid power components, as well as offers value-added services. This segment serves maintenance, repair, and overhaul markets; and original equipment manufacturer customers.

The Aerospace segment produces and markets aircraft bearings and components; super precision miniature ball bearings for the medical, industrial, and aerospace markets; and metallic and composite aerostructures for the commercial, military, and general aviation fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

Kaman also provides safe and arming solutions for missile and bomb systems for the U.S. and allied militaries; undertakes helicopter subcontract works; restores modifies, and supports its SH-2G Super Seasprite maritime helicopters, and manufactures and supports K-MAX manned and unmanned medium-to-heavy lift helicopters.

The company operates in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, and other countries.

Kaman was established in 1945 and is headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Tooling Solutions Customized for Each Customer’s Requirements

Kaman provides its global customer base with tooling design and manufacture for civil and military aircraft platforms on fixed wing, rotary, and space applications.

Products and Services:Kaman Tooling’s design and engineering team use the latest CATIA and CAD software, training manuals and on-site tooling training, concurrent and reverse engineering. Our team includes fully trained and accredited project and program managers.

The company provides a full engineering service comprised of a large multi-disciplined conventional tool room, supported by a CMM machine and a large 3 & 5 axis CNC machining center capable of machining small tertiary parts up to 6m in length.

Kaman Tooling has an AS9100 Rev. C quality management system, along with numerous customer accreditations, including BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Agusta Westland, Spirit and Bombardier. It has received ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation and ISO 18001 health and safety management accreditation.

Kaman Tooling uses a Robust Epicor / MRP system for order tracking and performance management. We adhere to ITAR controls, List X approval and secure FTP protocols.

Capabilities: Kaman Tooling is a center of excellence for aerospace tooling, and a global leader in tooling design and manufacture for civil and military aircraft platforms on fixed wing, rotary, and space applications. The company supports major primes and Tier 1 and 2 customers on some of the most advanced projects in development and production. Kaman’s extensive capabilities span design, project management, manufacturing, installation, through life support, consultancy, and tooling try out and modification. It provides turnkey solutions, from individual tools to production systems, including automation. In addition to aerospace, the industries Kaman serves include defence, space, power, transportation, renewables, and marine.

Kaman Tooling has a new purpose-built 64,000 square foot manufacturing facility, which includes 20m long bed CNC machining center, 6m co-ordinate measuring machine, 2x10 ton cranes, and 10m high assembly bays. The company manufactures metallic and non-metallic ground support equipment, including canopy transportation, nacelle handling, protective covers, struts, fin installation and removal kits, and lifting equipment.

Kaman’s tooling is designed and manufactured for a wide range of aircraft platforms, including A350, F-35, Typhoon, A320, Learjet, C-Series, A330, Hawk, A380, KC-390, G280, Trent, AH-1Z, A10 and A340. Kaman Tooling holds many prime customer approvals and is industry-compliant with AS EN 9100, BS EN 9001:2000 and ISO14001 approved. The company also holds BAE Systems Method 1 approval (Direct to Line Delivery).

The design office consists of a proactive, dynamic, multi-disciplined design team with extensive experience of producing 2 and 3D computer-aided designs using Catia V5, this is based on the knowledge of aerospace, automotive and specialist engineering industries. Kaman Tooling has a proven track record of meeting challenging time scales, with high quality and cost-effective solutions to assist in producing full turnkey packages to Kaman’s respective customers including installation. To complement both the production and design facilities the company provides an equally capable inspection facility with CMM and Laser tracking technology.

The company is accredited with a wide range of approvals including ISO 9001 along with many other Aerospace and Automotive approvals. Its quality department operates within a large climate-controlled environment, utilizing the latest Leica & Faro equipment. Supported by PCDMIS 2009 &METROLOGXG11 software suites, we also have a large 5 axis CMM (5m x 3m x 1.5m) with a measurement accuracy of 0.0005”.

Neal J. Keating: A Brief Background

Neal J. Keating is chairman, president, and Chief Executive Officer, as well as a member of the board of directors, having joined the company in September 2007.
