The Silicon Review recently contacted Dr. Jatin V. Mehta, CEO of MetaSense, and here’s his response.

Interview Highlights

Q. What inspired the creation of MetaSense? Please brief us on the history so far.

I founded MetaSense in the spring of 1999, after working as a consultant for multiple companies. At that time, I was married, with my wife studying in medical school, and we had a young child. The desire to build my own business had always been in me, and I waited until I had secured all the essential resources in a new country before taking the leap into this venture. Much like others from my cultural background, my primary sources of inspiration in all my endeavors have been God, my father, and my family.

Setbacks are a part of every growing business. Tell us about a few roadblocks and learning lessons that helped MetaSense grow through the years.

Certainly, I understand. My journey has been fraught with challenges. Initially, I faced significant skepticism within the industry, encountering difficulties in securing clients, likely due to my identity as a person of color and the presence of cultural differences. However, this experience taught me the importance of giving back to my community rather than perpetuating a cycle of missed opportunities resulting from my own previous rejections. Despite navigating through the hardships brought about by the 2008 recession, the 2020 pandemic, and various personal struggles, my faith has enabled me to become a steadfast problem-solver and provider of stable solutions in my business. These trials have provided invaluable lessons in survival and effective company management during the most challenging of times.

Q. As a service-driven, Inc. 5000 award-winning talent and technology company, what are MetaSense’s key focus areas?

At the heart of our operations lies the fundamental principle of upholding unity, harmony, and oneness. These values serve as the cornerstone of our endeavors, guiding us not only within the company but also in our contributions to the community. Our primary focus centers on cultivating networks, fostering meaningful relationships, and engaging in strategic marketing efforts. This three-pronged approach spans different facets of our service industry. We actively establish connections with hospitals and medical institutions, striving to understand their specific requirements. Simultaneously, we prioritize the cultivation of trust-based relationships with our candidates, ensuring that their needs are met effectively. Through deliberate marketing initiatives, we aim to promote our distinctive services and stewardship, distinguishing ourselves in a competitive market landscape.

Q. What strategies do you have in place to encourage innovation in your company?

In terms of strategy, I equip my team with the necessary resources, guidance, and trust in their abilities, empowering them to make significant contributions to both the organization and the community. I foster ambitious visions that I translate into substantial goals, emphasizing the crucial role each member plays in our collective journey. In return, they offer me much more realistic and achievable goals and ideas that consistently and patiently push us in the right direction.

Q. Can you provide us with one or two success stories describing the challenges your clients faced and how MetaSense helped them overcome those challenges?

Interesting question! In our industry, customers come with specific requirements. Amid the pandemic, one of our major clients encountered significant staff shortages. Consequently, we transitioned our focus from IT staffing to healthcare staffing and promptly offered them the necessary resources during this challenging period.

As a staffing agency, we initially provided several temporary skilled workers to the client, later devising a tailored recruitment approach to effectively address their requirements. Additionally, we helped them fulfill some of their permanent placement demands.

Tell us what’s next for MetaSense.

MetaSense is currently striving to transition from being classified as a ‘small staffing firm’ to a ‘mid-sized’ enterprise, with aspirations of ultimately becoming a prominent player in the staffing sector. Given our service-centric nature, we consistently adapt our processes. This includes our approach to sourcing candidates, the methods by which potential candidates discover us, the nature of our interactions, and our communication strategies with clients. Q. Is there anything you would like to add before we wrap up?

Dr. Mehta is committed to continued learning. He likes to surround himself with the brightest and most driven professionals. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India, and his MBA from the University of Massachusetts. He also graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program and has a certificate in ‘Effective Corporate Boards for Mid-Market Companies’ from the Wharton School.

Dr. Mehta also understands that the team around him makes much of his work possible, and he never wants to take people around him for granted. Irrespective of business or community matters, Dr. Mehta attends most meetings and proceedings. Being able to learn, listen, and volunteer has led to his incredible spiritual, personal, and professional growth.
