In the highly competitive world we live in, Electric Vehicles are gaining massive traction due the many advantages it holds in comparison to other traditional vehicles. Electric vehicles use electricity to charge their batteries instead of using fossil fuels and are therefore more efficient, and that combined with the electricity cost means that charging an electric vehicle is cheaper than filling petrol or diesel for your travel requirements.

Globally, there are various companies manufacturing excellent electric vehicles, among them Pride EV stands out. Pride EV offers world class electric vehicles and charging solutions to catalyze their clients’ electrification journey. The company’s mission is to protect future generations by reducing the environmental impact of the transportation industry. Pride EV’s world-class electric medium-to-heavy vehicles run a turnkey operation that eases the process of assembling the sustainable fleet. Its team of visionaries provide full-service support so that companies can transition into this new wave of transportation and build a greener future together.

In conversation with Javed Nadeem, Pride EV’s VP of Infrastructure

Q. For many motorists, simply knowing that electric vehicles are better for the environment is reason enough to make the investment. Tell us about your role in promoting environmental sustainability.

Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. At Pride EV, our mission is to protect future generations by reducing the environmental impact of the transportation industry. Offering world-class electric medium-to-heavy vehicles, we run a turnkey operation that eases the process of assembling your sustainable fleet. As you transition to this new wave of transportation, our visionary team will provide full-service support so we can build a greener future together.

Q. EVs run at one-third of that cost, given that electricity is significantly less expensive than gasoline. How often does your EV need a charge?

EV Charging depends on the range and daily usage or mileage of the vehicles. We are developing our EV Charging network, mainly to facilitate overnight charging. This not only results in efficient logistics operations and reduced energy bills by charging during off-peak hours but also extends the life of batteries. For some critical services, where trucks require more mileage than the specified range, we use fast high-power chargers for a quick charge. But the frequency of using DC high-power chargers is low.

Q. Compared to the few minutes it takes to fill up a conventional car at the gas station, recharging EV is a much more significant time investment. Is there an alternative to charge an EV on the go?

Our present EV Charging infrastructure is developed to provide overnight charging to most of our Electrical Vehicles. Even though the fueling time compared to Electrical Charging is very less, overnight electrical charging is more convenient since it doesn't account for additional stops and actual idle waiting for the operator or driver. A well-planned charging management system and infrastructure for Fleets can be more efficient since it doesn’t matter how long it takes for overnight charging. All that matters is that you plug in when returning to the hub so that you have a 100% charged vehicle when you come back the next morning. A full-charge vehicle is enough to provide 95% of the published range. Occasionally, our vehicle needs to get an opportunity to charge (quick refill). We use a high-power fast charging network of up to 350kW for quick turnaround. Rapid progress in charging technology will soon make a Mega Watt charger a reality, which will be able to charge a drained battery at 10% to fully charged 80-90% within 10-15 minutes.

Q. How can we increase the lifespan of the battery cells in EVs?

The lifespan of modern batteries in EVs is increasing. Most of the manufacturers now guarantee close to 10 years for batteries. There are several other ways to maximize the battery’s lifespan even further. Don’t charge batteries to the maximum. Even though a full charge provides maximum mileage, most manufacturers recommend not charging over 80%-90% of full battery capacity. Similarly, don’t let the battery drain below 10%, ideally 20%. Minimize exposure to very high or very low temperatures, especially when the vehicle is parked. Just like an ICE vehicle, warming up the vehicle before driving stresses batteries less.  Frequent fast charging can also take a toll on the long term performance of battery packs. But new and improved battery management systems in vehicles are getting better and better to communicate with high-power chargers.

Q. Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

We are a full-scale turnkey operation that will partner with clients from start to finish in terms of helping clients assess their location for charger compatibility and working with clients to find out which government grants/bursaries/rebates are available to them in order to choose electrification. We have strategically partnered with ABB E-mobility to bring the goal of large-scale commercial charging destinations to life. We are currently outfitting our 30+ North American locations with chargers and have chargers set up in 6 of those locations already.  We will also help clients figure out which of our offerings are most suitable for their fleet, from Tesla passenger vehicle models for their corporate staff to class 8 commercial EVs, Pride EV is here to help. We also currently have level three high-power DC fast chargers available in inventory to deliver to our clients.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

We are constantly researching and expanding our offerings to assist our clients and the public in moving towards a greener future. The EV industry is rapidly evolving and Pride aims to be at the leading edge so our knowledge and expertise can be best leveraged by our customers.
