I’m focused on eradicating pathogens with my technology, and it’s effective against a broad spectrum of these harmful agents: Richard G. Stead of UNEEKE TECHNOLOGIES LTD

Richard G. Stead founded Qures Group in 2016 while conducting research on hypothiocyanite ions and their beneficial impact in combating pathogens. With a solid foundation in chemistry, Richard has played a role in the development of modern alginate and hydrocolloids wound dressings, as well as the formulation of Gaviscon liquid. Over the last decade, his focus has been on designing products that harness the chemistries found in nature, mirroring nature’s approach. Currently, Richard is dedicated to advancing technologies effective in combating pathogens in humans, animals, and the environment. Qures Group Ltd concentrated its activities on human Health (see http://uneeketechnologies.com/). The wider opportunities for the hypothiocyanite molecule, beyond human health require a new company to realize the potential and the opportunities of Hypothiocyanite for populations and industries worldwide. Richard has decided that all the IP for Hypothiocyanite will be transferred to and reside within Uneeke Technologies Ltd, a new company he has established where he will be the CEO (https://quresgroup.com/). He is positioning the company for future investment, aiming to propel the technology it to new heights, globally.

The Silicon Review reached out to Mr. Stead for an interview, and here’s his response.

Interview Highlights

Q. How would you describe your professional journey so far? Tell us about a few roadblocks and learning lessons that helped you grow through the years.

I have been developing revolutionary products to support our immune systems naturally and effectively by targeting pathogens thereby curing infections in a post-ABR world and in the microbiome, by leveraging a technology platform that eliminates bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi. The goal is not only to address physical ailments, but also mental health challenges suffered by both humans and animals through monitoring, modifying, and harnessing the Gut microbiome. Importantly, this is achieved without causing harm to the friendly (commensal) bacteria and organisms that our bodies depend on. It’s crucial to extend this competence beyond health sectors, into agriculture, food and other industries, where pathogens can cause harm and problems. There were a few roadblocks, first being a potential problem with patents – the molecule is natural, so not possible to patent its structure. It has a very short half-life, so making it, bottling it and putting the bottle in a box meant it would have expired before getting to the factory gate. So how can I deliver the molecule to the patient? There is new legislation required, which is under way called MPOC – Manufacture at the Point Of Care. This should be in place by the time OSCEAUN® comes to market. MPOC is a concept that goes against big pharma ideas for monitoring total control of a medicine, a fascinating but surmountable hurdle. One real difficulty was finding raw materials of the correct pharma standards and with suitable capacity to meet the needs of UNEEKE now and in the future. This was probably the most challenging roadblock but, as with other problems, answers were found, so we are ready to go. With a different technology, different legislation and different targets I am continually seeking different packaging and delivery ideas. This will keep us busy for many years because having the name UNEEKE we must strive to live up to the name!

Q. As the CEO of the company, what are your major roles and responsibilities?

It is widely recognized that diverse technologies are required to combat different types of pathogens. An example is that a bacterial infection necessitates an antibiotics to address the bacterial pathogen, whilst these antibiotics are ineffective against viruses or fungal pathogens. My technology destroys ALL types of Pathogens. Overcoming the prospect of pathogens developing resistance was essential. The product was given the name OSCEAUN and patent applications submitted in 2021. Taking the technology gains for health and translating them into other industries is a major but rewarding task.

The essence of why, what and where I am with the technology can be summed up in the following five statements:

I hate pathogens: with an enthusiasm that is infectious! Over the last decade, I determined to find innovative methods for eliminating pathogens for both human and animal health. Top targets being Antibiotic Resistance (ABR), SEPSIS, and COVID, and exploring the intricate relationship between the Gut microbiome and mental health. My achievements in these areas have amazed me, with the potential to bring about substantial Global improvements in people’s health and overall quality of life.

We’re maintained in poor health: The United States can be classified as having one of the least effective healthcare systems, with recurring instances of old infections and illnesses resurfacing at alarming rates. The country exhibits a relatively low life expectancy, trailing behind numerous LMICs. Despite this, residents in the U.S. bear significantly higher healthcare costs. Examples like ABR and SEPSIS illustrate this failure, and the handling of COVID represents the pinnacle of what not to do. Many western countries mirror these inadequacies.

The existing methods for combating pathogens in or on our bodies, as well as in the environment, involve, often knowingly, a combination of ineffective approaches and the use of toxic chemicals. Unfortunately, these substances not only target harmful microorganisms but also harm the friendly microorganisms crucial for human and animal health and well-being.

Nature has the answer: Chemistry is the key: The molecule I have developed replicates the natural mechanisms found in our bodies to combat incoming pathogens, irrespective of whether they are viral, fungal, or bacterial. I took the “disinfectant” chemistry of chlorine and softened it so it selectively attacked only pathogens.

You’re not what you eat: You are what you absorb (from the food you choose to eat): This perspective helps explain the health challenges in the USA and Western countries, attributing poor health to suboptimal food choices that impact nutrient absorption negatively. The correlation between dietary choices and overall health emphasizes the importance of making informed and nutritious decisions to promote well-being, but equally important is having the right choices available, which are far from being available.

Microbiome: The gut microbiome relies on the nutrients we absorb from the food we choose. However, dietary choices, including excessive consumption of healthy foods, lead to dysbiosis. Dysbiosis, resulting from various aspects of our lives, contributes to poor health, particularly mental health issues, which are on the rise globally.

Many mental health issues, such as depression, Autism, are linked to the Gut and there is emerging evidence of a connection with Alzheimer’s. Effective relief for individuals dealing with these conditions may not be fully realized until the gut is rebalanced. Individualized analysis of the gut microbiome is deemed essential It is seen that OSCEAUNhas the potential to remove pathogens while being harmless to commensal bacteria. UNEEKE’s Gut analyses techniques can explain why an individual is experiencing Symptoms. OSCEAUN will bring not just relief from symptoms, but, potentially, Cures, for various mental health issues, including depression, ADHD, autism and even Alzheimer’s, through rebalancing the gut, and OSCEAUN is the crucial product for starting this approach. Knowing the state of sufferer’s guts is so important that, I must consider, and propose, to my investors, strengthening our links with the best Microbiome analytical labs that I have identified.

Q. What can you tell us about UNEEKE TECHNOLOGIES Ltd.? What are its focus areas?

I always wanted to overcome ABR-Antibiotic Resistance. It saddened me to see how the wonderful achievements of Fleming (from 100 years ago) were being lost. Fleming himself had seen ABR against Penicillin within a few years of it being marketed, and he told the world to be cautious and behave responsibly. We humans knew better and ignored him. So, now we are paying the price for “knowing better and ignoring advice”. Such irresponsible actions are still continuing, through overuse and using the wrong antibiotic. I have sympathies for Doctors who, facing a sick patient, have to choose whatever he/she can put their hands on for that patient without swift diagnoses to identify the pathogen (and is it resistant or not) and then select right antibiotic and is it available. So, how is it that the technology I am bringing, and which has been delivering pathogen killers, since time began, for humans and animals, is still effective and resistance has not developed. As with everything about my technology, I have dug deep to try and explain the chemistry. It is very simple as is so much of what nature has created and the way it is implemented.

When using antibiotics, the use per patient has been over an extended period of time and, invariably, too much antibiotic has been used. This means that the pathogenic bacteria has been in contact with the antibiotic for a long time and, in order to survive it has developed ways and means, which it then shares within and without its own species and these techniques have been taken up by other pathogenic bacteria, pathogenic viruses and pathogenic fungal species.

The method used by nature is the opposite. Low levels of killer molecule with fast acting and short half-life of the molecule, thereby not allowing the pathogen to learn to survive in its presence. The pathogen delivers its own demise and only enough to destroy itself, so never a surplus in which the pathogen can learn to survive. This same approach must be followed by our use of OSCEAUN. To ensure this happens, education for health workers, and those in other industries, will become the responsibility of the UNEEKE ACADEMY, wherein will reside all our knowledge of Hypothiocyanite and control of its use, ownership of IP, its sharing and development. The academy is a source of excellence for our investors, our licensees, our employees, our clients and, most importantly, for the patients. This technology is proving to be too important to allow it to be squandered so we do not end up repeating the mistakes of other wonderful creations, such as is happening with antibiotics. The understanding and control of the technology is an imperative.

In my research, I have primarily focused on three significant health conditions: SEPSIS, a growing concern in the USA and worldwide, especially for newborn babies; ABR, a global pandemic; and The Gut Microbiome, with its link to many health conditions, including mental health issues and now linked to Alzheimer’s, a major cause of mortality, particularly among seniors in the USA and other Western nations. The adoption of my technology has the potential to generate significant cost savings for hospitals, employers, health Insurers and governments by addressing and mitigating the urgent health challenges associated with conditions such as SEPSIS, ABR, and imbalances in the gut microbiome. The benefits for health from OSCEAUN are mirrored in Agriculture, Food and the environment.

I am also conscious that the vast majority of infections occur in the poorer countries of our world. With this in mind, the manufacturing, production and packaging techniques for those countries have deliberately been designed to be affordable, with each having its own local manufacturing and marketing operations, creating local employment, skills, and revenue.

At the beginning I told you of my enthusiasm for the technology. I hope I have been able to instill in you the same sky-high enthusiasm. Today, the team is me so, I will be looking for people to join the team and bring with them a high level of enthusiasm and determination to achieve all the potentials that OSCEAUN promises. I have, I believe, only envisaged a small part of what is possible for OSCEAUN and Uneeke Technologies Ltd.

I claim to be able to cure many conditions suffered by Humans but, sadly, there are 2 human conditions that are proving to be resistant to my amazing technology. These being: Stupidity and Greed.
