Co-founders Daniel and Brent Grisdale established Rigstar Industrial Telecom with the vision to address the unique telecommunication needs of the industrial sector, particularly in remote and challenging environments such as oil and gas, mining, and construction. The company was born out of the recognition that reliable and efficient communication is crucial for the safety and productivity of industrial operations. Since its inception, Rigstar has steadily grown and established itself as a leading provider of proven and cutting-edge technology for industrial communication solutions.

Rigstar is Headquartered in Calgary, AB with it’s US operations lead out of Houston, TX.

The Silicon Review contacted Mr. Grisdale, who also serves as the CEO of Rigstar Industrial Telecom, and here is his response.

Setbacks are a part of every growing business. Tell us about a few roadblocks and learning lessons that helped Rigstar grow through the years.

Like any growing business, Rigstar has faced its share of challenges and disappointments. The following are some of the key roadblocks and learning lessons.

Technological evolution: Keeping pace with rapidly evolving technology in the telecom industry has been a continuous challenge. Rigstar learned to invest in research and development as an early adopter to stay ahead of the competition.

Market downturns: Economic downturns in various industrial sectors have impacted demand. Rigstar learned the importance of diversifying its offerings, industrial sectors and customer base.

Regulatory compliance: Complying with industry-specific regulations and standards has been a learning process, requiring ongoing adaptation, education and execution.

Q. What strategies do you have in place to encourage innovation in your company?

Q. Can you provide us with one or two success stories describing the challenges your clients faced and how Rigstar helped them overcome those challenges?

Remote Camp Communications: 15000+ rooms and counting

The challenge: Multiple organizations rely on fast and stable Internet to maintain business continuity, along with increased workplace morale throughout the camp. In most cases, these camps are in very remote locations that do not have access to a cellular or broadband network and must use a satellite system. The challenges associated with satellites are limited bandwidth/performance and high costs associated with increased data usage.

The solution: Over the past seven years, Rigstar has successfully connected over 15,000+ rooms with accelerated Internet, Cellular, and Television services. Our approach was to provide a terrestrial solution via fiber and microwave to each site spanning over 400 miles through rugged and mountainous terrain. Rigstar designed and deployed a state-of-the-art network for the project. The deployment of a robust and reliable system ensured that the project could rely on consistent connectivity in both routine and mission-critical operations.

The Outcome: Rigstar’s telecom services contributed to enhanced operational efficiency for the project. The high-speed connectivity facilitated real-time communication, data transfer, and collaboration among project teams. Our solution was designed with scalability in mind, providing the project with the flexibility to accommodate future growth and evolving communication requirements.

Carrier – Rooftop LTE Upgrade

The challenge: The client, a major carrier, required an extensive upgrade to their existing site. They had a temporary solution in place that limited their coverage area.

The solution: Our team worked closely with the carriers engineering firm to ensure the steel frame, shroud, and mounts were properly secured on top of the office tower. Once our team completed the civil work we installed and tested the LTE hardware and decommissioned the existing infrastructure. Rigstar’s seasoned project management team ensured the seamless execution of the upgrade throughout the project lifecycle.

The Outcome: Rigstar’s team executed a turn-key rooftop LTE upgrade, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations. The efficient deployment showcased Rigstar’s commitment to timely and non-intrusive project execution. The upgrade introduced cutting-edge LTE technology to the rooftop, while enhancing the network’s speed, reliability, and overall performance.
