Interview Highlights

Q. How does SimpleLegal help legal teams achieve strategic business goals and deliver more value?

SimpleLegal is a comprehensive tool that provides transparency and management across e-Billing, matters, vendors, operations, and analytics to drive cost savings, increase efficiency, and mitigate risk.

We start by helping legal teams make sense of their data. Everyone knows data is important. They collect it, but they’re overwhelmed by it and don’t know how to use it. They need help converting data into actionable information to make the legal department valuable in the eyes of the enterprise. SimpleLegal provides the solution with a central standard source of truth for data that is verifiable and accessible, helping legal teams prove that their vendors and associated spend adds value to the business.

Q. What’s the company’s point of differentiation?

Simplicity to drive immediate adoption! You can’t get the most out of your technology if no one knows how to use it. SimpleLegal is committed to keeping things simple. It’s in our name. We’ve architected the solution to be intuitive. It makes it easier for users to adapt quickly – without hours of training, uncomplicated by overwhelming feature sets.

In other words, SimpleLegal didn’t just create the world’s first legal operations platform, we perfected it. We reinvented the way legal teams achieve strategic business goals and deliver more value – all while keeping things simple.

Q. What strategies are in place to encourage innovation in your company?

Despite the competitive landscape in other areas of the world, SimpleLegal was born in one of the most innovative places, the Silicon Valley. Our innovative pedigree is programmed into everything that we do. We attract high-caliber talent, which creates a diverse culture and way of thinking.

We also know that our customers depend on us to keep innovating and evolving our solutions because if we don’t, no one else will. We depend on our customers for feedback.

Our feedback loop is extremely strong and drives our innovation and decisions, and ensures that our solution meets customers’ actual needs. In 2022, we’ve had 50+ conversations between customers and our product team.

We continually invest in our tech, keeping pace with what modern legal teams need from their tools and vendors. We have one of the best APIs on the market, creating a seamless network to improve value transfer between the tools that legal teams use every day.

Q. How skilled is the SimpleLegal team of experts? And how do they bring value to the company?

At SimpleLegal, we conscientiously foster a culture that allows all voices to be heard. The mix of backgrounds has enabled us to bring a team of experts together — individuals with decades of legal tech experience, technology mavens, former attorneys, and leaders skilled in their trade.

While we have deep expertise in e-Billing, matter, and operations management, we bring this expertise to the fastest-growing legal tech conglomerate. As Onit’s first key acquisition (of six), we’ve deepened our expertise to help legal teams identify the right technology to solve their specific challenges as they grow. Our customers get additional value from our partnership on day one.

Q. No doubt SimpleLegal is charting new territories in this segment. Given how frequently circumstances change, what plans for transformation are you pursuing to remain relevant now and in the future?

In January 2022, SecureDocs, a global software company for contract management, virtual deal rooms, and electronic signatures, joined the Onit family and will integrate with SimpleLegal. Sharing a parallel record of success for midsize and smaller companies, the two will empower businesses to harvest greater efficiencies, transparency, and intelligence from legal operations.

SimpleLegal and SecureDocs are an ideal combination to solve the challenges faced by companies starting or establishing modernized legal operations. Our shared philosophy has contributed to our mutual successes. We both build simple to use and modern software, helping to grow and scaling legal teams to create processes that align with how modern companies do business.

Q. Is there anything else you want us to highlight that we might have missed?

SimpleLegal stands out by focusing on customer service and support more than any other vendor. We consider support as part of our solution and have conscientiously built responsive customer support, for our corporate customers and the law firms that partner with them. As a result, we achieved the top CSAT (customer satisfaction) score in the industry, with a 97 percent customer retention rate and a 95 percent gross revenue retention rate.
