The Silicon Review contacted Dr. Vasiliu-Feltes, CEO of Softhread Inc., who spoke about how the company is making a difference in this segment and plans to stay at the forefront. Below is an excerpt.

Q. What are your focus areas?

Our patent-pending Chios™ platform has been specifically designed for the confidential computing and compliance requirements of highly regulated industries, such as healthcare, life sciences, insurance, and government technology domains. Existing projects and ongoing relationships with several technology companies have demonstrated our capabilities within life sciences and healthcare, space industry, and smart cities cybersecurity. Examples include: a) Managing e-consenting and user access, as well as data provenance and access control for multi-site clinical trials. B) Demonstration of enhanced security and operational efficiency for IoT networks for medical sensors and devices. C) Demonstration of an innovative sensitive data exchange system for any protected, highly sensitive data exchanges via our transparent, decentralized trust network designed to be industry-agnostic and workflow-agnostic, ensuring interoperability and cloud-independent, as well as optimizing security via integrity-protected private chaincode functionality. D) Enhanced IoT network security for smart cities and web 3.0 deployments.

Dr. Yelena Yesha is Chairwoman of the board and co-founder of Softhread and is well known nationally and internationally for her numerous outstanding achievements and awards. Most notable are:

Over 30 years as a Professor and Distinguished Professor at UMBC. She was recently appointed as Knight Foundation Chair of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Miami and her role as Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Center for Accelerated Real-Time Analytics (CARTA) and Director of NASA’s Center for Excellence in Space Data and Information Sciences, as well as Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Center for Applied Information Technology (CAIT) at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology. Additionally, she is the recipient of The District of Columbia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies Lifetime Achievement Award and the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Inc. ‘Cyber Warrior Woman of the Year Award.’ IBM has also bestowed Yesha with the ‘Faculty Fellow of the Year’ award and she has been named an ‘IBM Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) Fellow.’ ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award’ was in recognition of her achievement as a distinguished educator and expert in the fields of computer science and information technology, her contributions to space data and information sciences at NASA, her development of the architecture for electronic commerce (first in the world), the creation of new innovative technology for cybersecurity, and her services to IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

Dr. Yesha has published 11 books as author or editor, more than 200 papers in prestigious refereed journals and refereed conference proceedings, and has been awarded external funding in a total amount exceeding $40 million.

Dr. Eliot Siegel is a co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Softhread. He has garnered numerous achievements and had a transformative impact in the world of radiology and imaging informatics. He is currently Professor and Vice-Chair at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, and the Chief of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for the Veterans Affairs Maryland Healthcare System, both in Baltimore, MD. Under his guidance, the VA Maryland Healthcare System became the first filmless healthcare enterprise in the United States. He is a well-known thought leader and speaker, who has written over 300 articles and book chapters about medical information systems in diagnostic imaging including PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and digital imaging, and has edited nine books on the topic, including Filmless Radiology and Security Issues in the Digital Medical Enterprise. He has given more than 1,000 presentations throughout the world on a broad range of topics involving the use of computers in medicine. Dr. Siegel was symposium chairman for the Society of Photo-Optical and Industrial Engineers (SPIE) Medical Imaging Meeting for three years, is currently chair of Publications for the Society of Computer Applications in Radiology (SIIM), and has been honored as a fellow in that organization. He is on multiple boards serving as a Board member of Carestream Health, a billion-dollar global company that provides digital radiography and computed radiography systems.

Mr. Tony Deasey is one of the co-founders and the Chief Financial Officer of Softhread and a British Chartered Accountant with extensive accounting, finance, and business experience. Having worked in public accounting with PwC, Tony spent 11 years, in increasingly senior positions, with Chesebrough Ponds, Tony became CFO of Church & Dwight Co., Inc. (CHD). He subsequently served as CFO in Rollerblade Inc and World Kitchen Inc both of which were leveraged Private Equity Operations before moving to Celsion (CLSN), a biotech development company, as CFO/COO before joining Northwest Bio (NWBT) as their CFO. After leaving Northwest, he formed 2nd Stage BioAdvisers LLC and provided CFO and management support to several start-ups (including Lanco Biosciences, Seguro Surgical, Inc., Stallergenes, Inc, and Flavocure Biotech, Inc.).

Q. What new endeavors is Softhread currently undertaking?

We are proud of our expanding IP portfolio, our strategic collaborations and partnerships, as well as our recent ‘Small Business Innovation Award.’ Additionally, we have recently secured several letters of intent with key strategic partners and are embarking on a fundraising journey to fully leverage and customize our platform to address specific business needs.

Dr. Vasiliu-Feltes is the CEO of Softhread Inc. and is known as a futurist, globalist who is highly dedicated to digital and ethics advocacy.

She is a Forbes Business Council member, digital strategist, passionate educator, entrepreneurship ecosystem builder, sought-after keynote speaker, executive board advisor, and consultant. Throughout her career, she has received several academic awards for excellence in research, teaching, or leadership. Throughout her career, Dr. Vasiliu-Feltes held several leadership positions and continues to be an active member of numerous prestigious professional organizations. In addition to her dual MD MBA degrees, she holds several certifications, such as Bioethics from Harvard, Artificial Intelligence and Business Strategy from MIT Sloan, Blockchain Technology and Business Innovation from MIT Sloan, Finance from Harvard Business School, Negotiation from Harvard Law School, Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
