In our highly competitive healthcare economy, medical practices find it difficult to streamline their services and thus miss out on the chance to grow their practices. Shared services organizations can help solve this problem. A shared services organization supports the management of a healthcare facility by undertaking its non-clinical or administrative activities. A skilled shared services organization helps streamline costs and labor requirements associated with non-clinical work. Outsourcing these services helps medical practices focus on supporting their patients and their health outcomes better.

Globally there are various shared services organizations delivering excellent services for oral surgeons, but U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM) stands out from the rest. USOSM is a shared services organization that focuses exclusively on serving premier oral and maxillofacial surgeons. USOSM’s proven partnership model creates a platform for aligning clinical practices to support exceptional patient outcomes. The company has a network of over 156 partner surgeons across 21 states, focused on shared financial success. USOSM’s partners have an ownership stake in the largest and fastest-growing oral surgeon network in North America. The company has experienced, proven administrative and leadership support to provide its partners with best-in-class marketing solutions to support growth and expansion. And finally, USOSM offers scalable solutions that streamline operations – allowing its partners to focus on patient care.

In conversation with Richard J. Hall, President and CEO of U.S. Oral Surgery Management

Q. What was the motivation behind starting U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM)?

Being an oral surgeon at the top of one’s game is only part of the equation for success. Competition is increasing, while business operations are becoming more complex, making it harder for practices to survive and thrive — or predict their future outcomes. Becoming part of our network not only provides our partners with the scalability and security needed to outpace market uncertainty but also gives our partners valuable growth opportunities. In addition, they’re able to spend more time focused on patient care and participate as an owner in our shared services organization.

Q. What are the obstacles that are commonly faced by oral surgeons? How does USOSM assist them in overcoming the said obstacles?

Oral surgery may be one of the most profitable dental specialties, but surgeons are facing new challenges as other specialties expand into overlapping services. USOSM helps our partners to regain revenue and improve efficiencies, so their practices can continue to compete in this rapidly changing and highly competitive market. Our partners focus on what they do best -- treating patients. The USOSM team focuses on the business side, from marketing strategy and execution, to day-to-day billing, to office management and everything in between.

Q. Could you elaborate on the partnership model adopted by USOSM? How does this model help you cater top-notch clinical support to your clients?

A partnership for the future, U.S. Oral Surgery Management is committed to sustaining the management of our partners’ legacy of high-quality clinical care throughout the communities they serve under the brands they’ve tirelessly built. We’re here to support our partners’ clinical autonomy and excellence. While USOSM concentrates on the day-to-day management of their practices, our partners are able to strengthen their focus on clinical quality.

Q. How does USOSM aid its clients in matching the changing customer expectations from clinical practices?

Marketing and practice operations are united in their approach to utilizing the best data and technology to serve our partners’ patients and their referring doctors. We provide all of our practices with the cumulative knowledge of our network, which enables us to stay on the leading edge of best practices for both patient and referral management. All of our partner practices consistently achieve a Net Promoter Score (NPS) from our patients of 80 or above, which is considered world-class, and we’re very proud of that.

Q. What are the practices adopted by USOSM that help oral clinics to combat the rising competition in the field?

Through efficient management of costs and budgets, we’re able to implement consistent, high-end marketing campaigns across the communities we serve. Our operational excellence allows our surgeon partners to see more patients with greater patient satisfaction.

Q. How do you market your services?

Being in a specialty space, we understand that 85% of our business is strictly referral based. We prioritize relationship management and referral management above all else. In certain cases, we complement those marketing efforts with digital and direct-to-consumer marketing tactics.

Q. Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

New partners join our network every month. Every time we bring on board a new partner, we learn something new that adds to the way we succeed across every practice.

Q. What does the future hold for your company and its customers? Are exciting things on the way?

We plan on continuing our growth and success by expanding our network of world-class oral surgery practices across the country.
