Modern advancements in various segments like communication and transportation have completely altered the way we manage our daily lives. In today’s world, we can order anything with a press of a button and have it delivered to our doorsteps. We don’t have to venture out during a busy week, and this, in turn, has eased the handling of both personal and professional business worldwide. The convenience offered by new technologies keeps us moving, and we have also adapted to it, but so have criminals. It is very unfortunate that there are people out there who will prey on others and exploit technological advancements and other contemporary tools. Public Safety encompasses the diverse needs of communities, nations, and the citizens as a whole.

The needs of public safety are ever-changing, and to cater to those needs, we need a forerunner in public safety like X.Labs. The company is the leader in next-generation public safety threat detection technologies and is dedicated to delivering innovative technologies for a safer world. Addressing the growing need for fast and effective proactive security and digitizing healthcare, X.Labs’ product suite includes cutting edge concealed weapon detection technology, which combines various technology stacks into one solution in its products X1 and XLe products. In contrast, its healthcare solutions include a non-contact thermal imaging solution with Feevr. The Feevr product suite consists of a stand-alone non-contact thermal imaging device that measures elevated skin temperature from a distance. At the same time, PreCheck is focused on gathering the healthy and revolutionizing digital healthcare by combining at home a temperature check with COVID 19 results to generate a QR code-based HealthXert for one-time event access. X. Labs’ customers include Fortune 100 companies, entertainment venues, schools, international airports, stadiums, corporations, hospitals, large-scale events, and national landmarks worldwide.

X.Labs was founded in 2017 and it is based in West Hollywood, California.

In conversation with Barry Oberholzer, Founder and CEO of X.Labs

Q. Where do you think the modern public safety system is lacking behind? How is your company filling the void?

The majority of public safety agencies typically lag behind in the ability to deploy new and emerging technologies due to budget. A key phrase often used by many of these agencies is “yesterday’s technologies today.” We find this fact unacceptable, especially during the crisis that we face together as a country. At X.Labs, we have kept this vital fact in mind when developing and pricing our products to ensure that they are in the financial reach of public safety agencies for immediate deployment.

Q. Digital disruption presents one of the biggest challenges to public safety agencies. How do you make use of new technologies to create solutions?

New technologies play an important strategic role in facilitating the ability of public safety agencies to adapt to evolving threats and environments. At the end of the day, they must work as advertised and enhance the overall safety and security of those working on the frontline and fill a significant void. We are focused on providing affordable hardware and software solutions by combining advanced technologies in one solution to prevent clients from having to source various technologies from different vendors and try and make them work collectively, which, more often than not, is not the case. Both our weapon detection platform and healthcare systems are at its core cutting edge technologies, which creates user-friendly solutions for public safety agencies.

Q. How do you identify and address the new challenges in public safety?

At X.Labs, we believe that in order to correctly identify current and future challenges in public safety, we need the expertise of those who have served in the homeland and national security positions. This experience helps us identify areas where new technologies are needed, and vice versa. It also enables our company to have an ongoing dialogue with those currently serving in public safety positions to understand the overall desires and needs as it relates to our technology design and functionality.

Q. An effective and efficient public safety system is needed to safeguard the society during such virus outbreak. How is your company tackling the situation and helping the government?

X.Labs was the first company to recognize the need for a product to allow for the safe screening for elevated skin temperature at a distance during the pandemic. Based on our extensive research and development of thermal technology, we were able to rapidly deploy Feevr to allow essential businesses to remain in operation throughout the pandemic. This would enable companies and organizations to have an essential tool ready for when they returned to work and reopened their businesses to the public. We also developed the world’s first “at home” solution by deploying smart thermometers and providing a digital platform to combine your COVID19 results to allow people to attend large gatherings, which is an essential need in the post COVD19 era. We are proud of the impactful role that we are playing in helping the United States safely get back to business and gathering the healthy.

Q. Do you have any new services ready to be launched?

As we enter the second half of 2020, our weapon detection platform X1 and the law enforcement version, XLe, will launch in conjunction with our data analytics platform READY. We have combined several technologies into one patented platform to provide an effective and efficient public safety solution.
