Interview Excerpt: David Mansilla, Founder/CEO

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

The company was set up when I saw the necessity of having highly skilled software developer talent among many companies in Ontario. Hence, we, as a company, decided to become part of the global economy pull. We realized that–there were not enough developers in the region to supply the huge demand that business had towards software development resources. That’s how we started.

Today, we have a comprehensive team of IT professionals that bring to the company many years of experience in a wide variety of technologies. We write software applications for various corporations and see our projects through from beginning to end. We provide our services to a wide range of industries.

Tell us about your first product that was launched.

Our first product – IS Unified – was launched in 2005. It was designed to unify every single person in a company and to manage an entire organization. IS Unified is a next-generation software application with a focus on Enterprise Resource Planning for the digital economy. It has fully integrated modules to do Project portfolio management, Computer asset management, Tier One support and help desk, as well as a variety of other functions to maximize work efficiency.

What were the grounds on which you have expanded your company and its offerings over the years?

Our key strategy is company culture. It allows us to have an extremely productive team that collaborates for the best interest of our clients, a culture which enables us to give the best of ourselves every day.

Another key strategy that differentiates us from the rest of the competition is the optimized software development lifecycle process that we have been able to implement. We follow the agile methodologies, specifically Scrum. For over 10 years, ISU has been delivering outstanding results to our customers with hundreds of projects completed on time and under budget.

In addition, our company decided to hire only senior programmers and people with the right attitude. In general terms, having senior programmers represented an initial cost which tripled compared to hiring junior or intermediate programmers. However, we quickly realized that the delivery was done so much better and so much more efficient that it put us on the right track, not only delivery-wise but in terms of cost management as well.

What do you feel are the reasons behind your consistent growth as an organization?

Our marketing strategies have created a culture that fosters the right delivery and project management. For every project that we start, we make sure that we are with the client every step of the way; that has helped us maintain our growth in the industry.

With our unique business model and excellent client-business relationship, we have created a market-leading company culture. Our main focus is on our clients as they are the reason we are in business. We always go the extra mile to ensure their satisfaction with our work. We think of our clients as our partners and we strongly believe that when we get them to succeed in their individual projects, we succeed with them.

What are the biggest assets to your organization? What would they be and why?

Our core values are summed up as: unique client experience strategy, pride in our work, integrity, collaborative teams, fulfilling environment.

Every executive, team, and individual adopts these values as their own when applying efforts to every project and in every aspect of developing client relationships. Operating at this level of understanding and perspective keeps focus on our larger goals.

Perhaps the most important advice I can provide is to surround yourself with a passionate group of talented people who aren’t afraid to argue their opinions. By checking your own ego at the front door and fostering that in your culture, you will ultimately make better and more informed decisions.

Where do you see your company a couple of years from now?

As our company grows every year, we foresee a significant growth (double our capacity). Our clients are the ones that allow us to grow exponentially. For every client, we have managed to show 10 times the profit that they had after we helped them with our systems. This is what we aim for – to contribute to the growth of the industry and the economy of the region.

The Man Behind The Operation: A Brief Background

David Mansilla, Founder/CEO: David Mansilla started his career as a Software Developer in 1995, followed by a part-time business in 1996 – creating Software applications for the retail industry.

David acquired many years of experience working in the corporate world, moving from Senior Developer, Systems Architect, all the way up to Senior Development Leader. In May 2005, David decided to dedicate 100 percent of his time in the software consulting industry, founding ISU Corp. Since then, he has been able to acquire a wide variety of clients from start-up companies to multi-nationals like General Electric.

Mr Mansilla has great experience in discovering rock stars in the development field and keeping his team highly motivated. This is one of the secrets of his explosive success.
