According to a new market report published by Transparency Market Research, the global electronic equipment repair service market is expected to reach US$ 162.39 billion by 2026, expanding at a CAGR of 8.1percent from 2018 to 2026.

The adoption of electronic equipment has increased across the world due to continuous innovations and technological advancements in electronic equipment technologies. Electronic equipment such as consumer electronics, home appliances, medical equipment, and industrial equipment require maintenance and servicing to lengthen their life. This is expected to drive the electronic equipment repair service market during the forecast period. Moreover, rise in demand for refurbished electronic equipment in developing regions is a major factor that is expected to boost the electronic equipment repair market in the coming years. All these factors are anticipated to drive the electronic equipment repair service market during the forecast period.

Pandisc Informatica Ltda offers a range of specialized electronic equipment analysis and repair services solutions as well as management and auditing solutions. The company was incorporated in 1991 and is headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Vlademir Gatti, Pandisc Informatica Ltda President/CEO, spoke exclusively to The Silicon Review. Below is an excerpt.

Q. Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

The company was founded to support national and multinational players in Brazil after the government opened the international market in 1990. There were big and local Information Technology companies just selling computers and parts but no specialized repair companies available to support them locally, as the import/export process was and continues to be slow and expensive.

Q. What challenges did you face in your initial years? What can your peers learn from it?

The big challenge we had in the first years was to gain the confidence of our customers for our skill and quality, as usually third world companies are underestimated for the high complexity products we proposed to support. We never give up. We work around the opportunities offering and demonstrating our capability and step by step we win the trust of the companies. Also, we got the main international certifications like ISO 9001, ISO 14001 e OHSAS 18001, IPC 7711, IPC 7721, IPC 610, Dun-Number and others.

Q. What kind of responses have you received from your consumers over the years? How have they motivated you to shape your offerings/grow the company?

Initially, we stayed in the hard drive business for many years receiving great feedback about our support and high-tech quality repair. As we were considered as the ‘Best-of-Breed’ company, our customers pushed us to offer more solutions, so in 1999 we decided to expand our business and implemented tape backup unit repair, a very complex enterprise solution but in the same line, storage. It has been a great success.

Q. What were the grounds on which you have expanded your company and its offerings over the years?

After the success of tape backup unit implementation, we decided to move forward. Initially, like the hard drive business, we started to bring more and more customers in to support us. As a result, we decided to move forward and offer more services, most of all complex enterprise solutions and some consumer offerings as well.

Tell us about the services Pandisc offers.

Pandisc offers services in multiple domains such as:

HDD/SSD: We screen, wipe the data and apply minor repair for all types of HD’s and SSD’s, consumer and also enterprise class of all manufacturers.

Our repair line has high technology engineering software and equipment, allowing us to achieve one of the highest repair rates in Latin America.

We also guarantee Destruction of Data in an unrecoverable manner by methodology approved by the United States Department of Defense and NIST, guaranteeing the confidentiality and privacy of its final customer.

Our special equipment lets us do repairs with great speed and total reliability, with simultaneous, automated and safe processes.

With the combination of short Turn Around Time, Competitive Price and Quality, many of our customers prefer to use our services to ship the equipment within the warranty period for RMA processes with manufacturers.

Tape Backup Unities: When we started to repair tape backup devices many kinds of equipment existed such as DDS, DLT, SDLT.

Nowadays we are supporting LTO technology which is domaining the market and also robotics devices called autoloaders and libraries that automate big backup systems.

We have several engineering tools that allow us to carry out the diagnosis, repair and tests efficiently, guaranteeing the reliability of the results obtained.

We know that the backup device is the last line of defense against disasters.

So, we have the concern and responsibility to return the equipment with total reliability and still in compliance with the manufacturers’ specifications for which it was designed.

Our repair is at component level and our processes are officially certified by IPC standards.

Systems Boards: Our system board repair line supports enterprise boards (server motherboards) and features modern diagnostic and repair tools and equipment.

We perform rework and repair at component level, including BGA reworking, where we put together all necessary infrastructure as well as skilled and well-selected manpower of technicians and engineers.

All repairs, rework and modifications are performed based on the IPC 7711B and 7721B standards, where we are members with official certification, and in accordance with IPC 610D standard of acceptance, ensuring the reliability and quality of services performed.

RAM Memory: Simple Product – Complex Repair. Although it looks like a very simple product, the memories require specific diagnostic equipment to efficiently identify the fault, optimize the repair process and make it economically viable due to the low market cost of this product.

Network Devices: We perform screening and repair of network devices such as Routers, Switches, Firewalls, among others.

Repairs also at component level, including BGA rework, where we have all the necessary infrastructure of test equipment and engineering software such as Traffic Generator, PoE test and more.

We also perform cosmetic rework on the plastic and metal parts returning the equipment with the new features.

Power Supply: Pandisc performs test and repair on server and consumer power supplies.

We have developed specific test equipment for diagnosis and measurements of many features like dynamic load, maximum load, ripple, current, among others, totally automated!

We also test with hi-pot and ground because above all, safety is always first.

A Dynamic Duo

Vlademir Gatti: Vlademir Gatti is the President and CEO of Pandisc Informatica Ltda. He has over 40 years of experience in complex IT engineering.

Prior to Pandisc, Vlademir worked for executive staff of many multinational companies. He joined FlexDisk as Development Engineer and later Percomp as Director of Engineering. Following an invitation from MicroLab, one of the largest investors in the computer area in Brazil, Vlademir took over as Superintendent, at that moment with more than 2000 employees, he raised turnover to $3 Million in the first year of management, almost double of the previous financial year.

Loyas Heric Heuwald: Loyas Heric Heuwald’s IT career began in 1990 as computer field technician. In 2001, he joined Pandisc as tape backup unit repair manager. Later, in 2009,he along with his partners built TSC – Technical Services Consortium, a global company present operating in 11 countries with 3,000+ employees which resulted in a first Global Innovation Award from Dell Computers.

In 2014, he became a company shareholder. Currently, Mr. Heuwald serves as the Vice President of Pandisc and TSC.
