While working as the first General Counsel for Broadvox, a leading Cleveland-based, next-generation telecommunications company, firm founder Alex Gertsburg developed an acute appreciation for what matters most to businesses: practical advice and cost-effective results. From 2006-2015, he has led the company’s legal department through numerous and varied legal matters, including corporate restructurings; real estate deals and mergers and acquisitions; negotiations and transactions involving commercial, lender, and investor parties; and employment matters and creditors’ rights. He also spearheaded the company’s litigation strategy, personally litigating most of its cases himself. That same sense of results-driven pragmatism and leadership now dominates his firm’s governing philosophy.

The firm’s approach to business law is proactive and consultative, ultimately saving clients money in fees and exposure before issues arise. Its ability to charge the right cost for the right services includes alternative and creative fee arrangements, budgets and budget-to-actual tracking, and value adjustments of up to 10%, discretionary to clients. They are also the first business law firm in Ohio that offers all clients the ability to opt out of the billable hour on all matters, including litigation.

Meet the Man behind the Success

Alex Gertsburg, Founder: Gertsburg has been in private practice for over fifteen years. The first half of his career was spent working for two large regional business law firms – Roetzel & Andress and Calfee, Halter & Griswold. In 2003, Gertsburg was called up with the 762d Transportation Co., an Army Reserve Unit based in Akron, Ohio, to serve in Iraq. He deployed with his unit for a year, serving as a platoon leader and convoy commander before demobilizing from active duty in 2004 and returning to the practice of law. By that time, Gertsburg had trained and served as an officer in the Army Reserve for ten years. In 2006, he was tapped to serve as the first General Counsel for Broadvox, a Cleveland-based leading next-generation telecommunications company. For the next ten years and until the company was sold, Gertsburg served as its GC and Corporate Secretary, as well as an EVP and head of its human resources department. Gertsburg graduated magna cum laude from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and was honoured with membership in the Order of the Barristers as a result of his successful tenure in the law school’s moot court program. He earned his B.A. from Miami University in 1997, where he studied political science and sociology.
