We are dedicated to our employees, our customers, their patients and the communities we serve.

Millennium Health is an accredited specialty laboratory with over a decade of experience delivering timely, accurate, clinically-actionable information through our nationwide medication monitoring and drug testing services.

Originally established in 2007, the company was renamed as Millennium Health in 2014 and restructured in 2015. Since then, the company is under new ownership and has instituted a new board and an entirely new management team. Consequently, Millennium Health has the experience of a company more than a decade old, yet all the energy and excitement of a startup. Through its renewed focus on building trust with customers on a foundation of clinical and operational excellence, it has emerged as the leader in the specialty toxicology testing space.

Drug testing is used by substance use disorder and pain management providers as well as many other specialties to obtain objective information about patients’ recent use of prescription medications and/or illicit drugs and helps monitor treatment plans. The company’s evidence-based, guideline-driven genetic testing services, including pharmacogenetic testing, help clinicians make more informed medication choices for their patients. Processing hundreds of thousands of patient specimens each year allows the company to provide meaningful insights into emerging drug use trends.

In dialogue with the CEO of Millennium Health, Andrew A. Lukowiak, Ph.D.

Is your company a ‘leader’ or a ‘follower’?

We are an industry leader in the diagnostics sector due to our customer-centric approach. As an example, IntelliumSM, our integrated, cloud-based platform helps clinicians perform various functions, from basic test ordering to monitoring the clinical analytics of the health care practitioners’ practice. Intellium also provides physicians the opportunity to monitor drug use and abuse in local populations and compare these trends to the trends found in their own practice in real-time.

In addition, Millennium Health has established itself as a leader in clinical intelligence. This year alone, our clinical team researched illicit and prescription drug use trends, resulting in the Millennium Health Signals Report™ and a publication in JAMA Network Open. Both studies were reported on by a wide variety of national media outlets including US News & World Report and USA Today.

Trust is a difficult attribute to measure and a delicate dynamic to maintain. How do you maintain this with your clients?

As a company committed to clinical excellence and compliance, we pledge to adhere to the highest standards of responsible and ethical business practices and fully comply with all applicable federal health care program requirements guiding the operations of clinical laboratories. Millennium Health operates an effective and robust compliance program, including the maintenance of policies designed to comply with all aspects of the laws and regulations governing interactions with health care providers, most notably the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute.

Do you formulate your own core values?

Yes, by way of example, trust is the cornerstone of everything we do. Earlier this year, we updated our corporate Mission and Vision Statements encompassing the word trust in both. Our Mission Statement focuses on the relationship between us and our clients; “to provide rapid and reliable healthcare solutions that our employees take pride in, patients and clinicians trust and payers value.”

Furthermore, to emphasize this commitment to trust, we have created a vision statement that demonstrates our dedication to trust on a more global scale: “to be the most trusted clinical laboratory in the world.” We believe it is essential for every company to establish unique, purpose-built values that set the standard for how they operate their business, both internally and externally.

Can you tell us how customer feedback has influenced your product offerings over the years?

One of our core corporate values is to “Be Customer-Centric.” More specifically, we consider every interaction with our customers an opportunity to go the extra mile and improve our relationships. By listening, we build loyalty and trust in an effort to provide personalized service, tools, and solutions.

Today, we provide definitive detection of more than 100 drugs and metabolites encompassing over 400 brand name drugs. This diverse menu is a direct result of extensive feedback from our customers. As drug trends change, we set a high standard for our test offerings to stay ahead of trends in illicit and prescription drug use through both proprietary intelligence and industry data. Most recently, we updated our fentanyl test menu to include 13 carefully chosen analogs to offer coverage of those most frequently identified in the recent DEA emerging drug threats report.

To complement our diverse menu of tests, we provide on-demand toxicologists for clinical education and consulting to advocate for and communicate with clinicians about their patients’ individual treatment plans.

What is the future roadmap of Millennium Health?

Through our commitments to innovation, customer experience, and compliance, Millennium Health is recognized as a leader within the specialty toxicology space today. Years from now, we believe our organization will be viewed as having set the standard for compliant, medically-necessary testing across the industry.
