Glion is a hospitality management school situated in Glion sur Montreux, Switzerland.

Based on the site of the former Grand Hôtel Bellevue, Glion was established in autumn 1962 as the Institut International de Glion. It was founded by Swiss professors Walter Hunziker and Frédéric Tissot, and offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, as well as summer programs and English language courses.

Glion has three campuses: the original Glion campus in Glion-sur-Montreux, Switzerland, a second in Bulle, Switzerland, and a third at the University of Roehampton in London, United Kingdom.

Globally, it was ranked 5th in the world for Hospitality Management, 1st for Employer Reputation in Hospitality Management, and 3rd in Switzerland for Hospitality Management in the 2018 QS World University Rankings.

The institution is owned by Eurazeo, a multinational private equity firm based in Paris, France and is operated by hospitality education group Sommet Education.

Glion: Educational Philosophy

 The educational aims are:

  • To provide both; a hospitality based and intellectually challenging program which will enable students to gain competencies, knowledge and experience that will prepare them for a successful career in the international hospitality business.
  • To support vocational and academic development with specific reference to the subject of hospitality business through a range of courses, modules and specialization electives.
  • To promote an ethos of learning how to learn through self-development, self-management and reflective self-assessment throughout the curriculum in order to foster greater awareness and confidence to engage in management practice.

In GIHE’s teaching and learning philosophy the faculty will:

  • Continue to develop and use good teaching methods to enable the students to attain learning outcomes through a deep approach to learning.
  • Combine academic research in education with professional practice, in order to guide Glion’s individual and collective approach to teaching and learning.
  • Study the effectiveness of Glion’s developments in teaching and learning, and consider the equality, diversity and inclusivity impacts of the curriculum design, delivery and assessment.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Glion’s teaching and learning, adjust the teaching methods based on the evidence collected, and seek to continuously enhance and add value to the students’ education.

Georgette Daveywas appointed Managing Director of Glion campuses Switzerland and the United Kingdom in August 2017. She has had vast experience of both hospitality and academia, including spending considerable time working at both Les Roches and Glion campuses.
