The Silicon Review
Revolution that will ultimately change the way we live, work and play. It will affect industries far and wide, ranging from healthcare and education, all the way to entertainment and commerce: Mike Stougiannos, CEO Qoobex Inc.
Humanity has had an uncanny obsession with technological innovation since its earliest days.
From the invention of the wheel to the subsequent birth of the automobile, or the dawn of modern means of communication such as the television and radio, to the more recent rise of personal computers and Internet-enabled mobile devices, the pace of progress has quickened far faster than any of us could have ever imagined.
In fact, nearly every part of our business and personal lives have been improved through technology and innovation’s touch in some way, shape or form. Today, we live in a society replete with real-time, on-demand access to the world’s vast annals of information and virtually any product or service we choose, no matter where in the world we might be, from bite-sized pocket computers.
In light of the above mentioned, we are thrilled to present Qoobex Inc., a global 3-D VR network that allows millions of people to watch and share natively-created 3-D and Virtual Reality content.
The firm is the first open Global 3-D VR Network to distribute entertainment, education, and advertising content, as well as social and gaming content, entirely in 3-D VR over the ‘Cloud’. Consumers enjoy free and paid 3-D VR videos, movies, and live events. Qoobex brings together content providers, movie and game studios, advertisers, and retailers and connects them with the rapidly expanding mass market of 3-D VR end users across the world.
Interview Excerpt: Mike Stougiannos, CEO
Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?
Qoobex Inc. was set up to create the world’s first 3-D VR broadcasting and social network ecosystem, which is entirely cloud-based and global in scale. Our two primary visions were and remain to link over the cloud every end-user with quality 3-D VR content producers across the world, and to interconnect the world in a 3-D VR social network permitting anyone to share his/her personal 3-D content with friends worldwide. To accomplish this, we developed a series of technologies that provide to both content producers and end users with universal 3-D VR device compatibility. Using the Qoobex ecosystem, it doesn’t matter what manufacturer’s 3-D device you use to send or receive the content – we make them all mutually compatible.
Specifically, our initial strategic objectives were to deliver:
Tell us about your first product that was launched? How successful was your first project roll on? Share the experience?
The first product that we launched was our free and on demand 3-D movies service over the cloud to LG WebOS 3-D TVs in 249 countries and administrative areas across the world, in 2016.
The development and roll-out of our 3-D movie service to LG TVs was a great experience. LG, the Korean electronics giant, has a long and challenging list of very detailed rules specifying content and software applications for any new provider. It was a heavy-duty effort to meet these requirements. But in short order, we achieved great success. The passion and ingenuity of every team member were remarkable.
We were delighted by the global reception that our service received immediately. Our cloud network caught fire from the first day, with 3-D users from all over the world connecting to and consuming our content around the clock. 3-D viewer traffic even from countries with low economic development was astonishing. It shows how hungry the global audience is to consume quality 3-D VR content at the convenience of a personal 3-D VR device.
What challenges did you face in your initial years? What can your peers learn from it?
Our greatest challenge was technological: to create an open global 3-D VR network over the cloud compatible with every 3-D VR devices is very challenging. We had to solve the problem of seamlessly integrating all the different, fragmented 3-D VR technologies already on the market, each manufactured to its own specifications, within our ecosystem. We had a great success until today in the compatibility field also. It is a very satisfying experience that today Qoobex is ‘3-D VR hardware agnostic’. Whatever 3-D device you wish to use to send or receive 3-D imagery, whether the Q Phone or someone’s VR device or any 3-D TV, you can do it through Qoobex cloud.
