Candid Q&A with Charles Deyo, CEO

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?
We’re in the vertical because of all our domain experience. Before I started Cendyn, I spent over 30 years in the hotel industry with Hyatt Hotels, Kerzner, Merv Griffin Resorts and Boca Resorts. I saw all the ways automation could solve problems for hotels.

What is a typical day in your office like?
I go where I’m needed. Some days I’m focusing on sales and marketing, some days I’m focused on operations. To be successful, you need to be able to step in when needed and step out when you’re not needed. Right now, I’ve inserted myself in sales and marketing, but for 2017, I’ll start inserting myself in operations to ensure we execute and that we have the processes in place to help our customers be successful.

Tell us about your first product that was launched?
Our first product was e-Proposal and I was the programmer, Cendyn’s first programmer. We came up with an idea of doing a configuration subscription. I thought, this is great, let’s build out more products

If you have to list four factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?
1. Great people make great companies. 2. Cendyn has always been about continuous improvement and being process driven. 3. We are adamant about product measurement, documenting the value to our customers and validating the success of our partnership. 4. We don’t want to be a vendor, we want to be a partner. Partners understand what needs to happen and go the extra mile to achieve  the outcome. A partner makes sure you understand the software. Cendyn makes sure you are successful.

How do you and your company contribute to the global IT platform and society at large?
We don’t want to be the best, we want to be the only ones doing what we do. If you had to sum up one word at Cendyn, it’s innovation. We always want to be doing the latest, greatest thing and drive profitable sales and marketing performance in the industry.

What do you feel are the reasons behind your product popularity and your consistence growth as an organization?
Cendyn solves problems in hotels through easy-to-use SAAS solutions. We’re focused on our customers’ success through a managed service process. And we know hotels: we know how to speak their language and we know how to solve hotel problems. We do that through our software as a change enabler. We go in and know our software will be an enabler to enhance business process.

What drives/inspires you to excel in your field of business?
I think we’re adding real value for our customers. I’m excited we have a great team to partner with our customers. There’s not a day that I don’t wake up and get excited to come to the office. We have a lot of experience in the hotel industry, and we love the industry. Hotels are a work hard, play hard environment. And so is Cendyn.

Where do you see you and your company a couple of years from now?
Continuing our high growth rate, continuing to open offices in new locations and continuing to acquire companies. Ultimately, we’re going to be a billion-dollar company.
